Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIKTOR HUGO DARGEL 1935 - 2017 It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we announce our papa and grandpa Viktor passed away peacefully at home with dignity, and surrounded by comfort and love on September 15, 2017. Papa fought a lengthy and brave battle with heart failure. Left behind to grieve are his daughters, Susanne (Richard) and Martina (Julius); granddaughter Melissa; extended stepfamily; neighbours and friends. Viktor was predeceased by his father Jacob Dargel of the Ukraine during the Second World War and mother Charlotte Dargel of Germany in 2003. Viktor was born on July 27, 1935 in Chortitza, Ukraine. He moved to Germany in 1945 and lived there until 1967 when he immigrated to Winnipeg with his young family. He initially worked two jobs to support his family, driving a cab for Red Patch Taxi in the evenings and welding during the day. In June 2000, he retired from Westeel with over 30 years of service to enjoy 17 years of retirement. Sasha, his German Shepherd was his faithful companion for the last 11 years until he became too ill to care for her. In his spare time, papa enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, tinkering around the house and garage (yes he was both handsome and handy and loved cars!!!) and being together with family, sharing good meals and good times with us. We will miss his kind, sentimental, honest and gentle nature, his intelligent wit and the ability to remember facts and information about many a topic. Papa spent countless hours sharing stories of his lifelong experiences and wisdom with us. Those who knew him also knew it was all about the story. We would like to thank the Palliative Care program and especially our nurse/angel Anita; Pastor Don Engel for providing spiritual care in our home; Dr. Shawn Thomas for his care and compassion; Dr. Asskar for his home visits. Also, a very special thanks to George, papa's barber of 50 years, for coming to the house for one last haircut. Next to the story, it was all about the hair. To Pete, thank you for your frequent visits and bringing the Winnipeg Free Press every Friday for papa to read the auto section and for taking him for his last car ride in your new Ford Mustang, asking him if it was okay to go faster as he grinned and said, "please!!" You made his night that night! Nella and Peter, thank you for your unending love and support. And Julius, thank you for opening our home to papa, cooking all those wonderful meals even though the bar kept being raised. Thank you for your support, love, and acceptance. A celebration of Viktor's life has already taken place. Donations in his memory can be made to Before the Bridge Senior K9 Rescue, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Cross, or a charity of one's choice. "Happy forever fishing!"
