RICHARD DIEDRICH PENNER On Monday, September 18, 2017, Richard Diedrich Penner passed away at Vista Park Lodge Personal Care Home, at the age of 81 years. Remaining to cherish Richard's memory are his wife Muriel; daughter Richela; sisters Susie Sherwood, Helen Dueck and Elma McMillan (Cam); brother Peter (Alvina), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Elnora; parents David H. and Susan Penner and brothers David, Henry, Tony and Bill. Richard was born in Plum Coulee, MB on January 11, 1936. He loved to travel, especially to tropical places where he could spend hours floating on his back in the ocean. He had a love of languages too - he really enjoyed Spanish and trying to use it in Mexico. His favourite way to travel was in a vintage VW Westfalia camper van. When he was in his late teens, Richard developed an interest in studying the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the age of 19. He had a strong love and faith in his God Jehovah, thus he and Elnora moved to Ontario to serve as pioneer ministers. After five years they moved back to Winnipeg to care for aging parents. For over 40 years he was the owner and operator of Penner's Driving School. Richard and Muriel married in 2005 and enjoyed many wonderful adventures together. Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit. A memorial service will be held for Richard on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Centre, 227 Lakewood Boulevard, Winnipeg, with Gordon Croft officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their compassion and dedicated care given to Richard, especially their efforts in making his last days as comfortable as possible.
