Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY KIRTON October 4, 1927 - September 19, 2017 Entrepreneur, Creator, Explorer, Advisor, Mentor, Enthusiast, Supporter of the Arts, Loving Mother and Grandmother; Shirley Margaret Agnes Scrase Kirton passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Grace Hospital, September 19, 2017. She will be dearly missed by her children Marlow Kirton (Marlene) and Kelly Lewis. She was a wonderful grandmother to Paige Lewis (Ian Phillips), Leland Kirton (Samantha) and Taylor Kirton. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Roberta Scrase Sykes. Shirley was born October 4, 1927 in Dauphin, Manitoba and raised by her parents Herbert and Mabel Scrase. She and her sister fondly remembered joyful times and a carefree childhood, both in Dauphin and at the family cottage on the North Shore of Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. This would eventually lead to a lifetime passion for the Lake. In 1938 her parents established Scrase's Meat Market, Shirley would eventually take over the helm. Her children and grandchildren all participated in the family business. She took great pride in knowing it was to celebrate 80 years of operation by her family in 2018. She contributed her time to the Wasagaming Chamber of Commerce, and the Historical society, also a huge supporter of the kiddies day parade she founded. During the year, her home was in Winnipeg, where she was a significant supporter of the arts; acting on the board for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, chairing several Gala fundraising events. She was a spiritual person and was a founding member of St. Bede's Anglican Church, serving as president of the Women's Association. Splitting her time between Clear Lake, Winnipeg, and winter stays at her home in Florida, Shirley made a multitude of friends. She worshiped her friendships, many of whom had been friends since childhood. The family would like to host a celebration of Shirley's life the summer of 2018 at Clear Lake. Should friends wish to make a memorial donation, the family suggests a donation in honour of her Uncle, Captain Thomas Scrase, who died in the line of duty September 11, 1936. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Dauphin and District Community Foundation, Dauphin Fire Department Memorial Fund, Box 6, 100 Main Street South, Dauphin, MB R7N 2T9. Shirley was a dear friend to my sister, Mary D. Turner. Mary D moved into the Westhaven because Shirley was there. It meant so much to know that Shirley was close by. She was always there for a fun chat and a helping hand. - Posted by: Brenda St. Clair (Friend) on: Sep 26, 2017

Dear Marlow, Marlene, Kelly and Families, We were so saddened to hear of Shirley's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of times spent at Clear Lake. I had my first job at Scrase's (1963), working behind the meat counter and remember Shirley's very famous Potato Salad. She shared that recipe with me in latter years when she had the cottage across the street from my Mom, Sheila Murphy. When my Mom was no longer able to communicate verbally Shirley waited until Mom opened her back door and that was a sign that Mom was OK. Please accept our deepest condolences. - Posted by: Kerry, Bob, Patty and Scott Green (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2017

I have often wondered what happened to your family. I was in Wasagaming in April 2017 but the store was closed. I remember you as another side of my Uncle Bob Machan's family (Elise aka Toots) and Roberta as a schoolmate. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Robert Bull (Bob) (Born, 1934, Dauphin) on: Sep 24, 2017

Kelly, Page, and Marlow and Marleen I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing and I send my deep sympathy and want you to know I am thinking of you all. The Photo of Shirley and Riding Mountain National Park speaks so much to rich history of your family. I have many warm memories of Shirley and the Lake and know that you also will be thinking of that warm deep pool of life's experiences with your Mom. Please let me know if there is anything I can do at this sad time. Lots of Love Jane - Posted by: Jane Mackay (old friend) on: Sep 24, 2017

To all of Shirley's family, I was very saddened to hear of her passing. She was a gem and will never be forgotten. I remember so many great times spent with her. The drives around the park that always ended up going to the cove. Walking down to her cottage for coffee and sharing a crossword. She was so interested about anything floral and fauna. Just a great friend and fun to be around. I will miss her. My sincere condolences, Marg - Posted by: Margaret Patrick (friend) on: Sep 24, 2017
