Date of Passing: Sep 21, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA ANNE TANCHAK (ARNASON) April 18, 1959 - September 21, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Anne Tanchak at the age of 58. Pat left us peacefully at the Stonewall Hospital, with her family by her side, after a difficult fight against cancer. Pat was born April 18, 1959 in Eriksdale, Manitoba, the daughter of Steve (predeceased) and Lara Arnason. In 1978 Pat married the love of her life Ralph Tanchak. They went on to have three children Jonathan Tanchak (Carolyn Morgan), Larissa (Michael) Higuchi and Julianne (Bradley) Weaver. Pat was blessed with six grandchildren that she loved more than anything: Ariel Tanchak, Nadia, Ryan, Rachel and Alexander Higuchi and Elizabeth Lacrosse. Pat also leaves behind her six siblings Ron (Elizabeth) Arnason, Ted (Grace) Arnason, Ellen (Art) Henry, Gerald (Doris) Arnason, Rick Arnason and Laurie Arnason (Grant Feuillatre predeceased). Pat's greatest treasure was her family and friends. She devoted much of her time to help and support others. Whether it was being the primary caregiver to her mother or planning the next family event. Highly engaged in the community she was best described as a professional volunteer and a dedicated artistic partner with Ralph. A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Mackenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main St. in Stonewall, Manitoba. A viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In keeping with her wishes an interment will take place at the Lundar Cemetery in Lundar, Manitoba at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Interlake-Eastern Health Foundation for Palliative Care, #233A Main Street, Selkirk, MB R1A 1S1. A big thank you to CancerCare Manitoba as well as the amazing staff at Selkirk Emergency and Stonewall Hospital for their compassion and support during a difficult time. In October of 1992, Pat & Ralph offered to take Bill & my children for a few days while we traveled to Calgary say goodbye to my dad. The children had a blast for those few days. Pat, I can never say "Thank you" enough times for that opportunity to say goodbye to my dad. Will always miss you - Posted by: Joyce Thiessen (Family Friend) on: Sep 29, 2017

Saw this on a friend's FB timeline just now . . . and realized I missed Pat's funeral by mere hours. My deepest condolences to Ralph (the love of Pat's life) and her wonderful family. Words are so inadequate when trying to express what Pat meant to anyone who crossed her path. Pat was a force of nature who oozed positive energy and shared it along with her heart-catching smile with everyone she encountered. She was a wonderful mother hen and we were all her chicks. She gathered us up, supported us and always had a shoulder when it was needed. She encouraged us to be a better version of ourselves and I think her only fault might have been that she set the bar so high for herself it made it hard for the rest of us to keep up. Her grace and resolve while fighting cancer had me believing there was no doubt she would win. I'm devastated that cancer won this battle. Losing Pat means God needed another angel - and the world is slightly dimmer and diminished without her beautiful smile lighting our way. Rest in peace dear friend - you made the world a much better place while you were here and I count myself lucky for finding my dear Fairyland friend along my Facebook travels. Festival and gardening won't be the same without you. - Posted by: Lauri St. Germain (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2017

I never met Pat in person, but I knew her well, and I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Pat and I met through a Facebook game, and I came to know her as a warm, compassionate, and loving woman. She adored her talented husband Ralph and was so proud of him. Her family was her top priority. She was so incredibly upbeat through this awful cancer and so happy whenever she could be with her family. My condolences to the entire family. Pat will certainly be missed. - Posted by: Deborah serfozo (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2017

I met Pat through her daughter Larissa. I was her care provider for her daughter Nadia when they lived in Kingston. Her Mom was a very kind and happy lady when I met her. She loved Nadia and she was her pride and joy. May God help her family deal with the loss of this beautiful wife, mother Grandmother and to all those who knew her. She suffers no more and is watching over her loved ones - Posted by: Cecile LHeureux (Friend) on: Sep 26, 2017

I am going to miss Pat. Her smiling face and positive energy. Her excited posts about the kids or grand kids coming to visit. Her photos of working with Ralph on his ice sculptures or lately at Wonder shows. She was positive right to the end. I truly thought she would beat this disease. She was a wonderful woman in every way shape and form and the world is a lesser place without her. - Posted by: Mary Redman () on: Sep 26, 2017

When we first met Pat and Ralph, we instantly recognized them as genuine caring, helpful inspirational people. Through keeping up with Pat's Facebook blog she continued to display the kind, generous person that she was. She handled her journey and struggle with the grace, high spirits, courage and kindness she became endeared to us for. We are so sorry she lost her battle but know that she is no longer struggling or in pain. Ralph, we understand you and your family's pain and wish you to know that we support and care for you and your family and are here to be a shoulder, listening ear, and giver of encouragement. We are sad that we cannot attend Pat's funeral but know that we are thinking of you all as you send Pat on her final journey. - Posted by: Eileen and Rick Stapleton (friend) on: Sep 26, 2017

I did not personally know Pat, but I learnt this from all the posts she was a fighter, she was strong, she love life, lived life to the fullest. She set an example of going through whatever with a smile, with a positive attitude and joy. God bless every member of the family as you go through this time. - Posted by: Deborah Ostryzniuk () on: Sep 26, 2017

Pat faught such a fierce opponent. But the love of her people kept her fight strong and dedicated. We are all soooo proud of you. So brave and strong in your faith in God's strength. It can only be that God needed her desperately. Her smile remains in my soul til we meet again. Until then I won't ever see a double petunia without thinking of you. Auntie Pat always made the Edmonton cousins feel welcome. The only time I couldn't stay with her when I visited is when she had a full house with her kids and grandkids. My favourite memory is my most recent memory, when I came to say goodbye. It was important to me to say goodbye when we could still have a meaningful conversation. She talked about what was the most important things in her life, how she didn't care about material things any more. She was eagerly looking forward to the family time and getting her whole-family picture. I was so touched in 2014 when Jonathan, Julianne and Larissa arranged for the professional family photos, as it seems that Auntie Pat will be remembered through the values that she taught her kids. The photos are a priceless family treasure. We have another priceless family treasure at my parents house, a mural, painted by Ralph. It reminds me of a time when I took them to West Edmonton Mall. Auntie Pat confirmed in August of this year that she still doesn't trust my navigational skills! I keep you all in my heart, across the miles and my heart breaks for you. I am sending you strength, peace, and I will never forget my beloved Auntie. - Posted by: Leah Arnason (Niece) on: Sep 26, 2017
