VICTOR DANIEL MANCINI June 6, 1932 - September 22, 2017 Victor Daniel Mancini of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away quietly in his sleep on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the age of 85. Despite his age, we were deeply saddened by the suddenness of his passing. Dad was looking forward to moving into his new apartment next month. Victor is survived by his four daughters, Angela (Peter); Lisa (Emre); Teresa, and Dianna (Dave); his grandchildren, Alysha, Brittany, Jiwan, Shelan, and Carson; and great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jordan. Victor is also survived by his dear brother Frank Mancini along with many other family and friends. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Enrico and Maria Mancini; his wife, Lynne (2002); his son Christopher (2012); and his brother Don (2014). Dad was born in Winnipeg on June 6, 1932 and grew up on Ross Avenue. He attended Victoria Albert School, Hugh John MacDonald, and Daniel McIntyre School. Dad had a very strong work ethic which began at a very young age. He loved telling stories of the old days when he worked at Reidigers Grocery Store as a delivery boy; when he worked at the Winnipeg Gardening Co-op hauling 100-pound bags of potatoes for .25 cents an hour; or when he delivered papers for the Winnipeg Free Press where he was honoured for his work with a train trip to New York City! Dad had many jobs through the years and always a story to go along with it! In 1951, Dad started working at Air Canada. It took him an hour to ride his bicycle to work on the dirt road since no buses ran at the time. Air Canada required shift work, so he could also work a second job at Metro Motors, the family business. Metro Motors which opened in 1962 was owned and operated by his dad, Enrico, his brother Frank and himself. Dad also had his foot in the restaurant business and for a few years owned Primavera Italian Restaurant in Winnipeg. Despite his busy schedule, he was quick to offer a helping hand whether it was changing a flat tire in -30 or adding another plate to the dinner table. All were welcome. After 32 years, Dad retired from Air Canada. He bought a cottage in Beaconia, Manitoba, where he enjoyed many good times with friends and family. Mom and Dad loved to entertain at the cottage and many great memories were made! Dad loved a good joke and he had a hearty laugh! He continued working full time at Metro Motors with his brother, Frank until they both retired in 2014. Dad was a member of the Winnipeg Sports car club and helped his brother Frank in many ways. He had a love of classic and vintage cars. He once had an old Packard in the garage-it broke his heart to get rid of it. Dad had a few favourite cars such as: the Alfa Romeo and the Jaguar XK120 MC Coupe. More recently, Dad could be seen chugging along in his old orange pick up truck that he loved! Dad was an avid bowler winning many trophies over the years. He enjoyed watching old westerns and Hockey Night in Canada. Gardening brought him pleasure and in the summer, vegetables took up much of the back yard while fruit trees grew at the lake. Dad was known for his homemade wine and cooking. Family dinners were classic and hours were spent around the dinner table. We will fondly remember walking into the house smelling something delicious cooking only to see Dad huddled over a big pot of pasta sauce, wooden spoon in hand. He was famous for his homemade meatballs and you couldn't leave the house without a take-out container full of the good stuff! If you were lucky, you could sneak away without trying any of his homemade wine! Rest well, Dad! We will miss you! Mom and Chris will be waiting!
