Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY NORMAN NICKEL January 12, 1924 September 21, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Norman Nickel at Riverview Health Centre, on September 21, 2017. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth; his children, Ken and Coreen, Brian and Deborah, Karen and his only grandchild Christopher, also known by grandpa as "Spiff". Also surviving him are brothers, Billy (Elrose) and Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Darlene and Shirley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Reinhold and Olga; siblings, Alma (Bill), Edna, Clarence (Mary) and Herbie. Also by his in-laws, Percy and Helen McCullough; brother-in-law Dorland (Mary). Dad was born in Grahamdale, MB in 1924. He lived on the family farm for many years. Dad had a very long career working for the CNR as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 1985. Dad loved nothing more than a good discussion about politics, sports and the world in general. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, hockey and of course, one of his favourite TV shows, Archie Bunker. Dad discovered years ago that he had a green thumb and kept many plants in the home. He also loved flowers and if you bought mom some, well they soon became dads. Dad had some very serious health scares over the years and often expressed that he thought he didn't have much longer, until his "Spiff" at the age of five told him "grandpa, you're going to live till you're 90". That was 24 years ago. Well dad, you lived 93 years and 252 days. You did good, rest easy, you will be missed. The family would like to thank Riverview Health Centre and the St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care given to dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4 to the Palliative Care Program or St. Boniface Hospital. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A private family interment will take place. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
