our friendship grew over a "beer" at the Selkirk Legion back in the early 2000's, our chance meeting with Debby with a "y" as we always called her was via her friend Barb, and from that moment our friendship blossomed. It was her love of life that drew us to her and her inner strength is a lesson to us all.She cared for everyone yet expected nothing in return. Debby with a "Y" our very own AFM ----Angel from Manitoba you will always be in our hearts, thank you for our time together, so until next we meet. Our sincere condolences to Randy and family, Tony and Joanne Meaning (Yarmouth Isle of Wight UK) - Posted by: Tony and Joanne Meaning (Dear friend) on: Oct 16, 2017

My memories go back to you + your parents visiting my Mom+Dad’s farm. Bo+Mitz always brought pastries+breads from Wpg (this began my love of bagels + rye bread). Later we met up in Dphn-you at A.Julie’s + me at my Mom’s-we had good times! When our visits didn’t coincide you always gave my Mom flowers and a manicure (rare times she wore nailpolish We shared a love of animals + on one occasion found a lost puppy.. We made phone calls + searched until we got him in good hands... The past few years we shared emails- many of which I kept. I’m happy I did b/c now I can read them + cherish our time together. So, Debby. as you always signed off: “LOTS OF LOVE” — Lorraine - Posted by: Lorraine (Cousin) on: Oct 11, 2017

I am utterly gobsmacked, I was certain that Debby would make it home to go through a period of recovery, and that I would be able to go and help her with whatever needed doing. My opportunity to repay her many acts of kindness. In addition to her loving, giving spirit which most have commented on. I remember Debby for her independent, confident spirit. Her presence in a room commanded attention, not because of any arrogant airs - NOT AT ALL- but because she spoke with wisdom and common sense. I always used to tell her that she inherited a chunk of wisdom from each of her ancestors that passed before her. And, could that girl tell a joke and a story. I remember being at an ‘all girls’ retreat with her in Alberta (her treat to me), she had everyone laughing until we cried. When we worked together on a training team for the Province of Manitoba, she always lightened the stressful environment with a good story or a very apt analogy. I recall the day I met Debby. We had been seconded to the same project and were all meeting at the convention centre, she walked in, acknowledging everyone with hugs. I was in awe. We became commuting buddies for the better part of two years. During that time I learned that Debby befriended people as quickly and as simply as a child in a playground, without inhibition. (A gift! If only we could all do that!) It was almost guaranteed if we went anywhere, she invariably ran into someone that she knew or a friend! Debby led by example, always performing small acts of kindness - I have learned, and now try to practice, that behaviour from her. Debby was always in tune with her spirit, always aware so that she would never miss a message or a sign. And to that end, I would like to share a short story: Sometime ago Debby and Randy gave me a small dresser which I had hoped to redo. I didn’t get around to doing that little job, and it was taking up space in my garage. So recently, I gave it to my cousin who refinished it and sold it. This is the text that I received from her, after I told her of Debby’s passing “...I just had a revelation, remember the old dresser Debby gave to you and I refurbished? The person who bought the piece was pregnant! Debby passed away and a baby will be born and mom will be using that piece for her newborn! One life leaves and another will be born...” We can only hope that the newborn will bring to this world a fraction of the love, kindness and generosity that Debby had.
