(MARGARET) JOAN CUNNIN May 11, 1934 - October 1, 2017 With deep sadness we announce the death of Joan Cunnin at Grace Hospital on the afternoon of October 1. She is survived by her three children, Mary (Ted Chesney), Cathy Shewchuk and David. She was predeceased by her parents, and her former husband Jim. Joan was born in Regina. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in 1956. She then continued her education, qualifying as a Registered Medical Technologist in 1957. She worked in her chosen career, while raising her family, in Drayton Valley, Alberta, Dryden, Ontario and Winnipeg, and spent the last 24 years of her working career as a Laboratory Assistant at Kelvin High School. She will be missed. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the Third Floor North staff at Grace Hospital, as well as to her many dear friends who have provided support and friendship to her over the years. A celebration of her life will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's name to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) (www.msf.ca; 551 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, Ontario M5V 0N8; phone 1-800-982-7903, msfcan@msf.ca) would be greatly appreciated.   • I have only known Joan, Cathy & family for a short time. But, when Cathy introduced me to her mom, I knew we would hit it off right away. After awhile Joan gave me a birthday card, signing it with, "my adopted son". This was Joan, she made you feel part of the family, right away. I will truly miss our joking and your friendship.
