HELEN LILIAN MEHMEL Gently in her sleep on October 4, 2017, Helen Lilian Mehmel was called home to Heaven. Helen was born July 17, 1921 in Winnipeg to Ewald and Philippina Mehmel. She spent her childhood in Elmwood and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Helen was a kind, loving and generous person, forging strong friendships with Steve, Connie and George who predeceased her. She spent several years working at Skills Unlimited and proved a reliable and popular co-worker. In her twilight years, she was a resident at Heritage Lodge where she was cared for with grace, respect and love. She was at the time of her death, the client with the longest residency at Heritage Lodge. Helen's birthday parties were a highlight for her and the other residents. She loved dressing up with 'bling' and being the 'belle of the ball'. Helen enjoyed bingo, and showed remarkable physical ability in mobility games and bowling. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings Herman, Elsie, Emma, Rudy and Vincent. She was cherished and will be especially missed by Carla, but also leaves many other nieces and nephews to remember her. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue. A graveside service will follow at Brookside Cemetery with Helen's niece, Rev.
