KENNETH GUDMUNDUR EINARSON Suddenly, on October 13, 2017, Kenneth Einarson, aged 71, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side. He was born in Winnipeg on November 18, 1945, and was the third of five children. His early childhood was spent in Oakpoint, MB, then later in Winnipeg where he went to Sargent Park, Tec Voc and Daniel MacIntyre schools. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Joan; his son Bruce (Brenda), his daughter Deborah Einarson Woods (Glenn Bruce), and his grandchildren Magnus, Melonie, Hannah, Austin and Brock. He is also remembered by his sisters Margaret Anderson and Lillian Hykaway, brother James (Vickie), sister and brother-in-law Lois and Fred Byron, brother-in-law Kenny Gingras, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Hrefna, plus his youngest brother Edward. He married Joan in 1964 and they had two children. After marriage, Ken's first job was at the Wildwood Bowling Alleys, and then at the fish plant in Kenora. He then worked for Sigfusson Transportation driving the winter roads up north. He rented trailers for Caravan Ltd., and then later purchased the storage vans, which started Einarson Equipment Ltd. (Trailerspace). Over 30 years later he sold the business and retired to Cape Coppermine, Lac du Bonnet, MB. In addition to coaching his daughter's baseball team or watching his son play hockey, he spent his weekends at his fishing camp with his friends. We're not sure how many fish were caught, however it was his peaceful and relaxing time. He was an excellent carver and made many beautiful items that we will forever treasure. After retirement, he spent hours working in his shop. It seemed every time he found a board we had another building. He leaves us all with many loving memories and we are blessed to have been loved by a man that put his family first. He taught us that honesty and integrity are two of the most important things in life. He was smart, kind, and always supportive in everything we did. We will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the members of his carving club for acting swiftly to get medical care for him. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre (3030 Notre Dame Avenue) on Friday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wish donations be made in Ken's name to Cupcakes Pommy and Friends Rescue and Rehabilitation. Call Central Veterinary Services, 1-204-275-2038 to make a donation by credit card, or by e-transfer to: cupcakespommyrescue@gmail.com This is where we adopted his little girl Lily Belle. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • We've known Ken since he purchased his properties at Cape Coppermine. Whenever Ken was driving by on his golf cart or "Allis" (his tractor), he'd always stop by and chat. He always had a story to tell, past or present, that kept us captivated. There were many days spent ice fishing near the cabin where we enjoyed his companionship and the odd drink. Ken was someone you could always trust and count on in times of need. Cape Coppermine was his paradise as he always seemed content; proud of his family and heritage. We will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Rob Brydges and family (Friend) on: Oct 20, 2017

  • Our condolences to Joan and family. So sorry to hear of Ken's passing. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. We think of Ken and Joan and all of the support with the St. James Canadettes ringette team many years ago - that brings back so many precious memories. - Posted by: Jeanette and Garry Kirk (acquaintances) on: Oct 19, 2017

  • To our dear friend Joan and family, I was sad to hear about Ken's unexpected passing. Please know that your loss is felt by many. You also know that the "forever girls" are always here for you - anytime, anywhere. Take care and see you soon. - Posted by: Barb (Humphreys) D'Avignon (Friend) on: Oct 18, 2017

  • We were very saddened to hear of Ken's passing. Sid really enjoyed Ken's sense of humour and the friendship they shared at carving. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. He will deeply missed. We are very sorry that we will not be able to attend Ken's service. - Posted by: Sid and Carol Lesko (fellow carver) on: Oct 18, 2017

  • Ken was a kind, gentle and generous soul who we remember fondly from our days in the 'little cottage' at Cape Coppermine. Ken once offered to help us with a small cottage project and he did so with a big smile on his face and not a moment of hesitation. He left an open invitation for our family to swim at his beachfront property and took pride in giving us a tour of his wood shop and Joan's quilting studio. We are fortunate to have crossed paths with such a kind man and his family during our cottage days at Cape Coppermine. - Posted by: Darrell and Erv (Former neighbors at Cape Coppermine) on: Oct 17, 2017

  • I was fortunate enough to have Joan and Ken as my Aunt and Uncle. It's rare in life you can look back and only have happy memories of someone and that is all I have of Uncle Ken. He gave a hug like no one else, truly wrapped you up in his heart. He put up with us crawling around his old house and showed his never ending patience with a laugh. His stories about history and all their travels could entertain for hours. My heart goes out to you Aunty Joan, Stan and I are here for you if you need anything. To Bruce, Brenda and Deb - biggest hugs. - Posted by: Penny & Stan (Niece) on: Oct 17, 2017

  • Amazing man and amazing historian. His story telling kept you drawn in for hours. He will be sadly missed. We will always remember being greeted with his big smile and bigger than life personality... We'll miss you Ken. - Posted by: Stan Lobchuk @ Penny Byron (Extended Family) on: Oct 17, 2017

  • What a beautiful obituary. We have been lucky enough to have Ken and Joan live next door to us in Victoria BC, just like old times in wpg while growing up. We loved getting together with them. Ken always made us laugh, had great stories, always wanted to help in anyway and oh how he loved to tease Joan lol. He spoke with pride of his kids and grandkids. Wow was he proud of his kids!!!!! We will miss Ken and we send our love to the family. - Posted by: Lyle and Sheila (Crawshaw) and chris smith () on: Oct 17, 2017

  • Hi Joan, I’m so sorry to hear the sad news about Ken. We are thinking about you. I will always remember the great joy that dad had for the Winnipeg gold eye the he got from Ken. Take care of yourself and call or email if you get a chance when things settle down. Gary - Posted by: Gary Miller (Joan’s cousin) on: Oct 17, 2017

  • Joan and family: My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We had many great memories with both you and Ken. One specific one will remember for ever was our bus trip to Thunderbay with the Canadettes. It was a chilly return to Winnipeg especially when the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere. But with Ken's abilities we were able to "rescue" everyone and get them home safely. It was a little frightful but fun at the same time. Rest in knowing that Ken has not left us but merely closed this chapter of his life and opened the beginning of a new one. He will be waiting with open arms when it is our turn. His memories will live forever with us all. God Bless - Posted by: DON SALLY (FRIEND) on: Oct 15, 2017
