EMIL PUHACH October 23, 1921 - October 18, 2017 It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of our dear dad, father-in-law, papa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Emil Puhach. Emil passed on October 18 (five days before his 96th birthday) at Deer Lodge Centre, with his daughters by his side. Emil was born to Stefan and Mary Puhach on October 23, 1921 in Glen Hope, Manitoba. He grew up on the family homestead in McCreary, Manitoba until he enlisted in the Army November 16, 1942. Emil served in England and France in the Second World War until his injury when he returned to Canada. Emil married Lucille Bouchard on October 19, 1946 and they began raising their family in the West Kildonan area of Winnipeg. Emil was predeceased by Lucille in 2008, and his son Don (Lee) in 2016. He is survived by his two daughters, Sherry (Carl) and Debbie (Jim), as well has his five grandchildren Chris (Carolynn), Charmaine, Brett, Bryce and Brody, and two great-grandchildren Ashley and Josh. His sisters Pauline Yawney and Kay Slobodian, his brother George (Helen), as well as many nieces and nephews are also left to cherish his memory. Emil was predeceased by his parents, and brothers and sisters: Mike, Alex, Nick, Henry, Mary, Anne and Nettie. Emil worked for many years as a presser at Peerless Garment. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, camping, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, travelling, and gardening (both vegetables and beautiful flowers). He also took pride in cooking delicious Ukrainian food and canning, loved animals, and children brought a huge smile to his face. These values have been instilled through generations. The family would especially like to thank all the staff on 3 West at Deer Lodge Centre and at Oakview Place for their exceptional care and compassion. They made living with Alzheimers more bearable for Emil and his family. Donations can be made in Emil's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Viewing will be on October 23, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with a graveside ceremony starting at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Emil's life will follow in the reception area. • Dearest Uncle Emil was always a "type A" person and I always enjoyed all his energy! He radiated to the young folk and always showed an interest in what we were doing. He loved to laugh and have fun! We enjoyed all the attention Uncle gave us. When Aunt Lucille and Uncle Emile had their last child Debbie, my Mom and Dad were done with their family as they had a girl and a boy....my Mom fell in love with little Debbie and had to have another baby - so sister Cheryl came along. Thanks Debbie! And Uncle Emil and Aunt Lucille were such good parents to all their kids. Remember a lot of lovely visits at their home and the BIG garden in the back. Aunt Lucille's chocolate cake. Uncle Emile and my dad George chatting endlessly about "guy stuff." Uncle Emile would always give my dad lots of advice on how to lose weight and George never listened...but Emile never gave up and kept on trying. He lived life to the fullest and it was a privilege to have known him. Thank you for being a good Uncle and spending time with us kids! Love always Uncle Emil and you will be one of the Angels that God will give many tasks to...as you always had such energy! Luv always niece Gwen and family - Posted by: Gwen, Colin, Justin & Matthew Band (Gwen is a niece to Emile) on: Oct 23, 2017

  • I would like to pass my condolences to Sherry, Debbie, Don's wife and all their families. Uncle Emil came several times to visit my mom when she was in good health and in her later years, when she was not feeling so well. I can remember when we lived on the farm, I was ironing a pair of pants with those ancient heavy weights that attached to an ironing handle (we didn't have any power on the farm) and Uncle Emil was visiting us at the time. He got perturbed at the way I was ironing the pants so he proceeded to give me lessons on ironing pants. He was very good at it and the pants got ironed in the right way. Uncle Emil and all my aging uncles and aunts have always been in my prayers. I wish his soul a speedy journey to heaven. - Posted by: MarieAnne Petryga (Niece) on: Oct 21, 2017
