Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR JEAN ELIZABETH WILSON 1942 - 2017 Peacefully, on October 25, 2017, Eleanor Wilson of Selkirk, passed away at Gimli Betel Personal Care Home. She was born on the 24th of August, 1942 in Selkirk, MB, one of four children of the late George Henry and Jean Isabel Wilson (nee Moyer). She is predeceased by her brother Wesley Abraham Hanson Wilson and sister-in-law June Claire Wilson (Ernie). Eleanor leaves to love and cherish her memory, brother George Ernest Wilson (Lorraine) of Winnipeg, nieces Marla (Adam), Janna, Lori Morton (Chad), and great-nephews Christian, Isaac, and Malcolm; sister Elsie Coldwell (Duane) of Gimli, nephews Robert (Kristel) and Jeffrey (Raquel), great-nephews Nicholas, Lucas, and Thomas, and great-nieces, Kelsey and Makenna; many relatives and friends. As a child, Eleanor enjoyed many family outings and a variety of sports. She was a voracious reader, adept athlete, and a talented artist. Church has always been very important to Eleanor. Every country or city she worked, she always went to church and it was through church that she met people. She enjoyed singing in the church choir throughout her youth and into adulthood. Eleanor loved nursing and helping those in need. She was a caring and extremely talented nurse who graduated from the Misericordia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. Her graduating class was honoured with lifetime achievement awards in June 2014. Eleanor had the opportunity to utilize her nursing talents in London, England, Cardiff, Wales, Edmonton, Alberta and Selkirk, Manitoba. She made many lifelong friends throughout her nursing career. Eleanor will be remembered as a fighter. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 26, and was able to continue nursing until the early 1990s. Her life's journey was wrought with many medical challenges which she faced head on with her head held high. She would often say that this was "her cross to bear," and "you only get one kick at the cat." She lived life on her terms and was always grateful for having the gift of life. Eleanor was so grateful for all those who helped her maintain as normal a life as possible. She felt blessed to be able to remain in her home as long as she could thanks to the kindness and generosity of many friends and family. A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior to, on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Christ Church Anglican, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB with Rev.
