DOUGLAS ALBERT MITCHELL November 10, 1927 October 21, 2017 It is with sadness that Doug's family announce his peaceful passing on October 21, 2017 at the Grace Hospital. Predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (nee Poulton) and second wife Jackie (Bock stael/nee Blanchette); parents Alfred and Mary Mitchell (nee Buckle); siblings Frank, Peggy, Mary, Ralph; parents-in-law Alfred and Edith Poulton; brother-in-law Glen Matthes, brother-in-law Norman and his wife Georgina Poulton. Doug leaves behind to remember him; sister Connie Matthes, daughter Laura and husband Tim Shea, son James and wife Trish Ciglar; grandchildren Kelly and husband Jordan Marciniw, Paul and wife Catherine, Jessie and Benjamin; great-grandchildren Chloe, Dominic and William and nieces and nephews. Doug was born in St. Vital and as a child lived there and East Kildonan. His first job was working for the CNR. He was always interested in electronics and had a sideline business repairing TVs. A promotion with the CNR in the Freight Rates Division had him and his young family moving to Montreal in 1959. After four years, they returned to Winnipeg for his new job as a transportation economist with the Manitoba government. In 1970, the family moved to Tanzania, as Doug had taken an assignment with the Canadian International Development Agency to provide technical advice to the East African Railway. There was a second posting to Malaysia in 1974 to advise the Malayan Railway. Returning the Winnipeg, Doug was self-employed as a transportation (trucking) consultant. In 1982, there was a move to Ottawa to be the Program Manager for the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators. Doug was a keen builder and always proud of his construction skills the first family home in Woodhaven, to a major addition to the second Woodhaven home, a cottage at Grindstone Park and many sheds, fences and interior renovations along the way. A final move back to Winnipeg in 1992 where he enjoyed the good company of friends and relatives. No formal service is planned.
