He is survived by his son Donald (Jane), daughter Brenda (Lyle) Fisher; grandchildren Neil (Candace) Maya, Nolan; Rochelle (Mark) Hailey, Hannah; Derek (Amber) Ayla, Declan; and Amanda (Jeff). He was predeceased by his wife Reta on May 21, 2010. Dad was born in Morris, MB. He joined 15th Battery RCA on September 8, 1939. On the 29th the Battery combined to form the 11th Field Artillery Regiment RCA and left for overseas in January 1940. They set up in Guildford, south of London and in 1943, boarded the American troopship "Argentina" in Liverpool and landed at "Augusta, Sicily" on November 8. Moving north to the Straits of Messina, on to Bari on the Adriatic Coast then north to Ortona where they saw the real war damage. He served on many committees and was awarded the Legion Certificate of Merit and the 75th Anniversary Medal. He curled well into his 80s at Deer Lodge Curling Club. Dad wanted to say this: "I have lived my life, have no regret so have no cause to grieve. I leave you now with kindly thoughts as I finish my last run, with all the grief and hardships past, it's been a lot of fun". The family would like to thank the staff of Deer Lodge Tower #4 for all their care and compassion given to Dad. Donations can be made to St. James Legion #4, 1755 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
