GENOWEFA CATRYSSE May 15, 1927 - October 28, 2017 Peacefully, Gene died at the age of 90 years. She leaves her three daughters, Levica Feys, June Catrysse and Christine Tronrud (Mark), 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Andy, son-in-law, Walter Feys in 2016, and daughter Andrea Klochko in 2008. Gene was born and raised in Juzwin, Poland. She was the oldest of six children so therefore, she only went to Grade 3 because she had to stay home to help with the younger children. During the Second World War, she was removed from her home at the age of 16 and was taken to Germany to work on a farm where she met Andy. After the war, she married Andy in Germany on May 1, 1945. They immigrated to Canada in 1951 to pursue their desire to farm. In 1952, they entered into a farming partnership with Frank and Christine van Kemenade in Stonewall. In 1964, they split up the dairy, and Gene and Andy moved to Teulon where they dairy farmed until 1984, and selling the farm to her son-in-law Mark. Gene was a very hard worker and milked a lot of cows. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a fantastic cook. She took pride in a clean home and a big garden. She loved to entertain guests and always had time to visit family and friends. In her mid 70s she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease which didn't really slow her down until the last five years. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Church in Teulon. Lunch will follow at the Anglican Church Hall in Teulon, with interment to follow at the Windsor Cemetery. Father Barry Schoonbaert presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Vianney Church or Lillian Baron Breast Cancer Support Group. MacKenzie Funeral Home Teulon 204-467-2525 info@mackenziefh.com

  • We are so sorry to hear about tante Zena's passing. What a coincidence that my mom and her passed away so close together. She will be dearly missed as she knew so many people and made the best polish food there was. I'm sure the good memories will keep all of us going. With deepest sympathy. • Sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. - Posted by: Joyce Dziadek () on: Nov 01, 2017

  • The Catrysse family was a big part of my early life having lived next door on the farm with you during my formative years. Many memories, but I will always remember how Gene (Gena as we knew her) let my brothers and I come over once in a while to watch a little TV in the evening, before we got our own TV. A gracious host in her own special way and a character to be sure. Sorry I am not able to attend the funeral. Please accept our condolences.
