Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN CAMERON MCDIARMID Passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Third Crossing Manor, Gladstone, at the age of 96 years. Allan was born on September 15, 1921 in Gladstone, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Canadian Air Force in the fall of 1942. He did basic training in Brandon, MB for six weeks and then went to Portage la Prairie to navigation school for 18 months. There were people from all over the world, including Australia and England. He took flight training in Portage la Prairie, Brandon and Dauphin and then on to Calgary "OTU" for three months. He then went to LaChine, Quebec for posting and boarded the "Empress of Scotland" for Liverpool and more training in Yorkshire. Allan became one of the RCAF 425 "Alouette" Squadron of bomber command. He flew Halifaxes and Lancasters in six operations over Germany. He then took over the family farm in Helston, MB. In 1999, he retired from farming and moved into Gladstone Legion Lodge. He was past president and past Sergeant-at-Arms of the Gladstone Branch #110 of The Royal Canadian Legion. When not farming or engaged in Legion activities, Dad enjoyed curling, baseball, golf and hunting. He spent much of his later years travelling the globe to see his children in their many distant locations. Allan was predeceased by his wife Joyce, and daughter Diane. He is survived by five children, Bill, Kathleen, Valerie, Gwendolyn and Cameron; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Clarke's Funeral Chapel, Gladstone with interment at the Gladstone Cemetery.
