JOYCE LORRAINE TOD (nee MITCHELL) October 3, 1928 - October 28, 2017 Peacefully on October 28, 2017 our beloved mom, mother-in-law, grandma and great-grandma passed away at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Rod, her parents George and Margaret Mitchell, her siblings Jean (Dave), Alec (Irene) and Margaret (Alec), her dear great-granddaughter Blake, and her nephew Alan. She is survived by her children Keith (Sharon), Glenn (Angela), Peter (Shaunda), and Sharon, her beloved grandchildren Tracey (Rod), Lorraine (Drew), Andrew, William (Jillian), Iain, Kaileigh, Liam and Cory, her dear step-great-grandchildren Whitney and Cody, and her adored great-grandchildren Pierceson, Kipton, Hudson and Trystan Lorraine. Joyce was also blessed to have special relationships with her niece Gail and her husband Bob, her nephew Gordon and his wife Dale, many of the Tod nieces and nephews, her late sister-in-law Reesa, and her dear friends Joyce and Ken Wankling. Joyce was born in Winnipeg and lived in many different parts of the city before moving to St. Vital when she married in 1950. She became a dedicated citizen of St. Vital and for 66 years she lived in her beloved home on the river. Joyce was blessed by the kindness shown to her by her neighbours, especially in her later years. As a devoted St. Vital resident Joyce worked local elections, canvassed for charities, was a member of the St. Vital Historical Society and an Honorary Life Member of the St. Vital Agricultural Society of which her in-laws were founding members. Joyce was a longtime volunteer with the Agricultural Society and entered in many categories in the annual St. Vital Agricultural Society's Fair. Her specialty was baking and she was a regular winner of the aggregate prize in baking, given to the winner of the most prizes in the baking category, and has the ribbons, plaques and spoons to prove it! Her fudge cake and shortbread were legendary and her grandchildren would gladly pay the price of a hug and a kiss for one of her chocolate chip cookies. Joyce, like so many of her generation, worked at Eaton's in the years between high school and marriage. After her marriage she dedicated her life to her husband and family, not only raising her children but caring for many of her grandchildren in their early years. Family was always her first priority. Joyce was a lifelong Liberal. She was a dedicated fan of the Bombers and Jets but her main love was curling. She loved watching curling on TV, attended many events in Winnipeg and even travelled to events in Brandon and Victoria. She also enjoyed travelling and was lucky enough to visit her beloved Scotland as well as England, Wales, Bermuda, Alaska and many parts of Canada. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Brough of Prairie Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. Our family wish to thank the wonderful staff at the Convalescent Home whose kindness and caring made Mom's last difficult months so much better than we could have hoped for. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Convalescent Home or bake something for a loved one or, better yet, bake something and enter it in the St. Vital Agricultural Society's Fair in August, 2018. Mom would like that. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
