Date of Passing: Nov 04, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD MYDLO Edward Mydlo of Winnipeg passed away peacefully, and with his family by his side, at the age of 76 years on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Deer Lodge Centre. Ed fought a courageous battle with COPD for the past eight years. Left to cherish Ed's memory are his wife Shirley, of 53 years of marriage; daughters Carol, Barbara, Alison and Susan; brother John, and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Stella, and his brother Stanley. On November 7, 1940 Ed was the first-born son to Walter and Stella Mydlo. He was born in Perron, QC and the family moved to Winnipeg one year later. Ed was raised and lived in the North End until he moved to Deer Lodge Centre in March 2017. He met Shirley through his friend Gary (his sister) and they married in May 1964, celebrating their 53rd anniversary this year. Before his retirement, Ed worked for the Canadian Grain Commission where he was a Test Baker. Ed enjoyed his job and enjoyed the people he worked with. He had been given opportunity to travel several times to the United States to participate in conventions focusing on the testing of grains in and from various countries. A sports enthusiast, Ed had belonged to the Cavalier's Fishing Club and enjoyed reminiscing about the trips he took, the stories and the good times he had, and the friendships he gained during those times. Ed also loved horseracing, watching the big races and spending time at Assiniboia Downs. In his younger years he coached ringette, hockey, softball and baseball. He loved to watch on TV and listen on the radio to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose, and Winnipeg Goldeyes. Ed's passion for analyzing and discussing strategies about past and future games will be fondly remembered. Ed will be most remembered for all the volunteer work he did for Sinclair Park Community Centre where he served as President twice. He always had a smile on his face when remembering stories of his times there. Good friends and great volunteers will forever be in the family's memories because of the reminiscing of times gone by. To honour Ed's wishes a private family event will take place. The family wishes to thank the staff of Deer Lodge Centre, as well as Dr. Martha Ainslie and Dr. Nancy Dixon for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, Ed has requested a donation in his name to KidSport Manitoba or a charity of one's choice. Fond memories of Ed Mydlo. Any memory of Sinclair Park is not complete without Ed in it. My parents and I moved from Winnipeg to the west coast in 1989 and years later my parents went back to visit Winnipeg and went to Sinclair Park and who was there but Ed Mydlo...like nothing ever changed. Rest in peace Ed and I imagine you will be volunteering to work the canteen in heaven. - Posted by: Dean Swanton (Friend) on: Nov 11, 2017
