JOSEPH GABRIEL NEMETH With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph Nemeth. Dad passed on Saturday, November 4, 2017, surrounded by his family, bringing his earthly journey of 96 years, to a peaceful and dignified end. Left to cherish his memory are his five children Joe (Carron), Ken (Deb), Don (Norma), Rob (Barb), daughter Darlene Martineau (John), and sisters Helen Hallack and Betty Huntley. He was a very proud and loving Grandpa/Papa to 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition, he was a dearly loved Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born on the family homestead, south of Punnichy, SK on February 3, 1921. He was one of seven children born to Steve and Martha Nemeth. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and forever love Minnie, brothers John and Steve, and sisters, Mary and Martha. Dad always spoke fondly of his formative years and the fun times and antics he shared with his many siblings. During Dad's childhood, the family spent time in California and Ontario, eventually returning to Punnichy. Dad enlisted with the Armed Forces in July 1943, serving in the North Atlantic. Due to an injury, he left active duty, receiving commendation for time served. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Edward Branch 81 for over 60 years. Mom and Dad met through a mutual friend and were married in Winnipeg on October 19, 1946. They soon began their family and their early years were spent farming in Balmoral, MB. In the 1950s they moved to Winnipeg and Dad embarked on a career in Real Estate. He later worked as a Correctional Officer at Headingly. Due to the unfortunate passing of our mother in 1975, true to form, he put his family first and took early retirement, affording him more time to devote to his family. Dad was a long time parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church. His strong faith helped see him through the difficult times. Dad was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family and the importance of family was a virtue he instilled in each and every one of us. He was a loving father and grandfather who never failed to express his pride and show his affection. Dad resided at Concordia Village for a number of years, where he loved to dance and take part in all the activities. Due to declining health, he moved to Concordia Place Personal Care Home where he spent his final years. Dad was a dear and special man who won over the hearts of everyone he met. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Concordia Place for their supportive, compassionate care during Dad's stay. In keeping with Dad's wishes a service will be held at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue, Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Dad, we know that you are the happiest soul in heaven now that you have been reunited with our beloved mother, Minnie. We know that God now has you in His keeping and we will have you forever in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace Dad......XOXO GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • To the boys and Darlene....... You may not remember me but you used to come visiting on the farm in Mariapolis and we had so much fun playing in the attic of the barn. Sometimes got into a little trouble but remember Uncle Raymond, my dad, saying they are just having fun. So sorry to hear, but now him and Minnie and mom and dad can reminisce about old times. By the picture you have in the obit. I would have recognized your dad immediately and I have not seen him for many many years. Our sympathies to the whole family . No matter the age it is always difficult to lose a parent and yes you guys had great parents. You have great memories. If you ever feel like coming for a visit we are still in Mariapolis. • I am very saddened by the passing of your dear father , grandfather, great- grandfather. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time . Your dad was my favorite uncle . When i was little I was always so excited when we'd be going to Uncle Joe and Auntie Minnie's house on Ottawa Street . It was a warm and welcoming home , and i remember myself and Darlene playing for hours upstairs. I always received a birthday phone call even as an adult from Uncle Joe which made me feel special. I always marvelled at what an amazing dad, person he was. In my career as a Store Manager i remember when i was working for Tabi International at the Kildonan Place Mall , I had a lovely group of ladies that lived at Concordia Village where Uncle Joe did, that would come shopping every couple of weeks. I had mentioned that my uncle lived there and when they discovered it was Uncle Joe I became their favorite person. Uncle Joe was very charming, funny so i can understand why these ladies enjoyed his company so much. My mom always spoke lovingly of him , how well he treated her as she was the baby in the family. He will be so missed. Rest in everlasting peace Uncle Joe . - Posted by: Sheena Dunsmore (Niece) on: Nov 08, 2017
