FRED COOK Peacefully, on November 13, 2017, Fred Cook, aged 86 years of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Miriam; daughter Nancy (Rob) Robinson; granddaughter Jessica, along with his in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and Australia. Fred was born in his home in St. James on May 4, 1931 to William and Fannie Cook. He was educated at St. James Collegiate and became a Certified Management Accountant (CMA-CPA). Excelling in his field, he received the Gold Medal in Accounting in Manitoba with the highest marks in RIA (now CMA). Fred's career led him to the City of Winnipeg where he held the position as Auditor, Municipal Hospital Senior Accountant and Finance Manager. He also served 15 years as an accountant for the Municipal Hospital Medical Group. Fred met Miriam Askew and were married on August 21, 1954. In 1962 they were elated to welcome their much awaited daughter Nancy into their lives. They lived in Transcona and enjoyed many sporting activities such as skiing, curling, badminton and golf. Fred and Miriam were members of the Transcona Golf Club for 18 years where Fred served as Greens Chairman. They both also joined Pine Ridge Golf Club in 1976 which they now continue as members. Fred found enjoyment in attending the 'Ridge Nights' functions and had also volunteered for the Canadian Tour tournaments that were held at the club. In earlier years, Fred and Miriam loved to take daughter Nancy skiing at Sunshine Village. Following Fred's retirement, he and Miriam loved to venture down to San Antonio, Texas to play some golf and did so for 11 years. Summers were spent at Sandy Hook RV Park for over 35 years where the Cook's, Robinson's, Askew's and good friends Dave and Judy Kentziger spent many days playing some type of game, having races and gathering every evening around the campfire reminiscing and sharing laughter. Fred's quiet nature, gentle manner and dry humour will be missed. Cremation has taken place and a celebration in honour of Fred's life will take place at Pine Ridge Golf Course in the spring of 2018. We wish to thank the staff of the Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the care and compassion given to Fred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Fred. Fred was my boss at the Municipal Hospitals back in the 80s. It was my first full-time job and Fred was so good natured and laid back that it was such a pleasure to work for him. I have thought of him over the years and wondered how he was doing. I am glad he lived a long life and he will be remembered as the gentle soul he was. - Posted by: Maureen Urbanovich (Staff) on: Nov 20, 2017

Miriam, g'day. Please accept our condolences on the passing of your dear Fred. We still remember with fondness the speech you delivered at Lynn's marriage to Steve. "Their union is like a fairytale...." Bless you Miriam; keep well. Kindest regards, Denise & Graeme Hewitt. (Aus) - Posted by: Graeme and Denise Hewitt (Aquaintance) on: Nov 19, 2017
