M. KATHARINA FREY (nee NAGEL) November 13, 1944 - November 12, 2017 We are sad to announce the passing of Katharina on November 12, 2017, after a long struggle with cancer. Katharina was born in Trimbach, Switzerland on November 13, 1944 and came to Canada in 1965 to visit siblings and learn English. But in 1966 she met René Frey (also from Switzerland), got married and they stayed in Winnipeg, where they worked and raised their family. First she worked in administrative functions at the Winnipeg Clinic, then raised the children and later went back to work for Eaton's. Early on, she was always involved in volunteering, from the St. James Chapter of the Manitoba Cancer Society (28 years), to the Manitoba Marathon (over 30 years), Deer Lodge Centre Gift Shop as well as the 1999 Pan-Am Games and others. She'd like to thank all the wonderful doctors and staff that cared for her over the years. She and her family wish to particularly thank all the staff and nurses at the Buhler Cancer Centre, Home Care and Palliative Home Care as well as for the last few days the St. Boniface Palliative Ward, which helped her cope for the past 13 years with what was given to her and made her life worthwhile. Cremation has taken place and she is reunited with her first, still-born son Daniel. A private memorial gathering will be held for family and friends before her ashes will be taken back to Switzerland. She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, René Frey, Winnipeg; daughter Deborah A. Dymont-Frey (Don and children Chase, Austin and Brandon) in California; son Markus G. Frey (Indira and children Jonah Frey, Joshua and Andy Guardado), Winnipeg, as well as some relatives and many friends in Canada, the USA and Switzerland.
