Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT RAFFERTY Peacefully on the evening of October 14, 2017, Albert Rafferty passed away at the age of 93 years. Bert will be forever missed by his loving wife Dorothy, of over 30 years of marriage; his sons, Patrick William and Timothy Hugh; daughter-in-law Leslie; his sister Jean; brothers, Jack and Leslie; Dorothy's children, Kevin (Anita), Colleen (Greg), Douglas (Sharon); and numerous grandchildren, great -grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Hugh Rafferty in 1931; his mother Elgina (Hall) in 1976; wife Margaret in 1981; son Michael Albert in 2006; sister Elsie and brothers, Joe and Hugh. Bert was born in Winnipeg on June 16, 1924 and grew up in Elmwood. He graduated from St. John's Tec and worked at S & S Aircraft for a short time. Bert then joined the Army for six months until he was age 17 and then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained in Comox, BC and from there was sent to England. While there he was able to visit his mother's sister Alma. He was born on her birthday and she lived to 102 years. During the Second World War, as a Flying Officer, Albert flew in Dakota planes, with doors open to drop supplies, petro, food, ammunition and soldiers over India and Burma. Bert was very proud to have served his country. Following the war, Bert worked at Community Chevrolet as a purchasing agent for 19 years. He then worked at Manitoba Hydro in the Purchasing Department for 20 years, retiring in 1985. For many years, Bert and Dorothy enjoyed spending a few months each winter in Arizona and also enjoyed their summers at the cottage at Ponemah Beach. Cremation has taken place and the family would like you to join us for a "Celebration of Life" for Albert on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Elmwood Legion Branch #9, 920 Nairn Avenue, Winnipeg.
