DESIREE ST. LEGER CAUSLEY (PADDY) After a wonderfully long and full life Paddy passed away peacefully on November 14, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Jim, who predeceased her in 2010. She was the mother to Diane Whyard (Bruce) and Stephen Causley (Faye). She was a loving grandmother to Ashley (Darren), Chris (Rhoni), Trisha (David), Nikki (Sean) and Rob (Nadia). She was also a great-grandmother to Findley, Margot, Madeleine, Leo, Emily, Malcolm, Stella, Lucia and Lorenzo. She was predeceased by granddaughter Leslie Causley. Paddy was born in London, UK in 1921. She was supposed to be a boy and hence received her lifelong nickname from a popular play at the time called "Paddy - The Next Best Thing". During the war she served in the Land Army where she met and married Jim who was an officer in the Canadian army. After the war she joined Jim in Canada and felt the rigors of a young British bride trying to adjust to life in small town Ontario. She was a wonderful hostess and a great support to Jim throughout his career. She amassed a wealth of friends across Canada and kept in touch with all of them regularly. They travelled extensively to the UK (and her beloved extended family), Russia, Australia, Scandinavia, Europe and latterly San Diego and Victoria. Paddy was well-read (and a font of knowledge of all things British), loved nature, skating, yoga and taught aerobics. They moved to Winnipeg after retirement to be closer to family. In later years she struggled with memory issues but always maintained her sweet, kind, well-mannered approach to everyone she met. We are especially grateful to everyone who cared for her, first, at Riverwood Square and later at Riverview Health Centre. Their loving care made her final years much more comfortable. Thank you. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, should you wish, a donation to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice could be made. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • What wonderful memories we have of Jim and Paddy. Paddy stayed with mom for a week before I was born and today is my 63 birthday so that’s going back. Both Paddy and Jim helped with my sister and I when mom was sick and she is now 96 and healthy. I’ve been trying to track you down Diane for a few years. Please feel free to contact us. I’m sorry to hear about Paddy’s passing. - Posted by: Wilma Gummow and Katharine Barnes (Friends) on: Apr 30, 2018
