Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT CLARENCE MACK June 20, 1935 - November 12, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Mack, at age 82, while residing at Sturgeon Creek One Retirement Residence. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Nina Mack, his infant brother Scott, and his brother Jim. He is survived by his loving wife Lorna; children Roger (Tannis) and Doug (Nicole), and cherished grandchildren Terri-Lynn, Kelsey, Joanne, Tyler, and Allison. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Leona, his brother Keith (Dorothy), sister Joyanne (Dave) Pettigrew, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was born and raised in Lumsden, Saskatchewan, where he spent a happy childhood. Upon graduating from high school, Bob completed Teachers' College. He spent two years teaching in Southern Saskatchewan before taking a job with Core Lab in Regina. Looking for a change, Bob accepted a job as an engineer with Dominion Bridge and remained with the company for 25 years. During this time, Bob and Lorna moved to Winnipeg, where they have remained. Bob finished his work career as a financial analyst with St. Boniface Hospital, before retiring in 1994. Bob was a loving husband to his wife Lorna, whom he met while working in Regina. Together they raised their two children. Bob was a wonderful father and spent countless hours with his family, which included sharing his love for the outdoors, as well as chauffeuring his sons to all of their activities. Bob will be remembered by family and friends as a kind and caring man with a strong work ethic, who enjoyed square dancing, cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and canoeing. He was an avid member of the Manitoba Naturalists Society and the Grey Hares, leading many trips to places such as Sandilands, Birds Hill, and Spruce Woods. When he was not on a trip, Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking in as many of their activities as he could. Bob was an avid volunteer with Cansurmount, helping many newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families. He was also a devoted member of Sturgeon Creek United Church, having served on various committees throughout the years. The family would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek One Retirement residence, Home Instead staff, his family doctor and the team of CancerCare doctors and nurses who cared for him while his health was in decline. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, on Monday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m. Donations, in Bob's memory, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Bob hired me at Dominion Bridge in 1980, shortly after I moved to Winnipeg. He was a kind, smart and understanding boss to a woman who was working in a 'man's field' at that time, as an Industrial Engineering Analyst. He gave me a strong foundation to continue my career, and he was very appreciative of my work efforts. In 1984 I left DB to work at Boeing, and eventually moved to BC, and more recently, back to Ontario. I often think of Bob, and asked a friend of mine who lives in Winnipeg if she ever hears about him. I so regret now that I didn't actually make an effort to get in touch with Bob before this, as it would have been wonderful to have one more visit with him before he died. I am very sorry for your loss. As my friend said to me as she forwarded this link to me, Bob deserves to be remembered. - Posted by: Mary Picard (Employee) on: Oct 09, 2018
