HEDY PATRICIA KUSCH (nee ZEIDLER) It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our dearly beloved Hedy passed away on November 23, 2017 in the Palliative Care ward of St. Boniface Hospital. Hedy is survived by and leaves to mourn her spouse, partner, and devoted admirer Brian Macpherson, the light of her life, daughter Karen, son-in-law Tim Moran, sister Susie (Ken) Paulozza, sister-in-law Hortense Hodge, nephews Mike (Marliese) Paulozza and Jon (Lindsay) Paulozza, niece Miriam Drysdale, and great-nephews and nieces Ethan, Gabriel, Maddison and Olivia. She was predeceased by her parents Vlasta and Zdenek Zeidler, brother Danny (Zdenek) Zeidler, and husband Jack Kusch. Hedvika (Hedy) was born in Prostejov in the then Czechoslovakia. At the age of 10 she and her parents escaped the communist regime. After several years in refugee camps in Germany the family was admitted into Canada where they settled in Chatham, ON. She trained to be a hairstylist in Toronto, where she began her career. Hedy moved to Winnipeg in 1976 when her late husband Jack was transferred by the CBC, and built a loyal and wonderful clientele over many years, eventually taking on the ownership of the outstanding salon, Split Ends Co. #1. Because of her immense talent and creativity she was also invited to travel across Canada to do demonstrations of hair styling techniques. In her later years she so enjoyed working and visiting with colleagues, clients and friends at The Style Council, all of whom appreciated her skill, knowledge, and tremendous sense of style. Hedy's life was defined by love. First and foremost was her bottomless love for and devotion to her family. She loved her work and her clients, which allowed her immense creative talent and dynamic personality to shine. She loved food and wine, and entertaining friends in the home that she shared with Brian. She loved the wonderful events of the La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and her fellow members who were always so welcoming and appreciative. There was a very special place in her heart for the cottage at Ingolf. It was a place where she found great peace and much happiness. Those of us who were touched by her love, know how lucky we have been to have had Hedy in our lives. We have lost a person we all loved so deeply. A celebration of Hedy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In spite of Hedy's deep love of flowers may we request, in lieu of sending flowers in her honour, you consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, or to a charity that is especially meaningful to you. I knew Hedy only as my beloved hairdresser, but she was a wonderful friend, always interested in the lives of others, and willing to go the extra mile for one who had not inherited the easiest hair to style and care for. I know I will never find another hairdresser like Hedy - she had skill, but more, she was a person I will always remember and treasure her friendship. Karen, she always talked about you, and I feel I almost know you. Then her love of the lake is a passion I shared for our place at Lake of the Woods. Thank you Hedy for the life you shared. What can I say about Hedy !! She was one of the loveliest people I had the pleasure to know. I am proud to have been one of her friends. Nick and I were introduced to Hedy by one of her friends, Linda , and we stayed close for 35 years. Hedy was the godmother to our youngest daughter Kalinda and was proud when we asked if she would serve in that role. Hedy had the most contagious laugh and would cheer you up when you were sad. She had a positive , upbeat attitude about life which was infectious. When I learned of Hedys diagnosis my heart broke into a million pieces. I visited Hedy last August for her birthday. Brian gave her a great party with all her close friends. It was the highlight of my summer and I will always cherish the memory. Whether it was sharing a bottle of wine or attending one of her famous New Years brunches she was the consummate host and friend, giving practical advice or a shoulder to cry on if you needed one. Hedy, we will always cherish your love and friendship. We were so lucky to know you and be a part of your life. We send our deepest and sincere condolences to Brian, Karen and Hortense . May you find comfort in family and friends to lessen the pain of your loss. Tom and I were so sad to hear about Hedy. She was a friend and neighbour for years. Karen and our daughter, Sarah, went to school together and Hedy and I often commiserated over their antics and shared many a laugh. She was a marvellous chef and I can still remember so many of her special creations- the tower of profiteroles and the holiday rouladen to name a few. Hedy was one classy lady and will be missed. My condolences to all, especially Karen. - Posted by: Mary Kirk (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2017

Hedy was a woman of strength, purpose and dignity. Her steady hand guided our best looks and her generous spirit enriched our friendships. Well-read and always in for a dynamic discussion, her marvelous sense of humor made each one of those a true pleasure. I will miss that smile, that kindness, that very special woman. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for Karen and Brian. All of us send both of you our love and prayers. - Posted by: Karen Menkis () on: Nov 27, 2017

My favorite memory of Hedy is hearing her laugh. She was always so joyful. She had the innate ability to make everyone feel "at home" every time they met her. Hedy was a mother, a lover, a friend, an entrepreneur, a hostess, a chef. I could go on butfor me one of the best memories of Hedy is that no matter what, she was always "one hell of a lady". Peace. - Posted by: Linda Attree (friend ) on: Nov 26, 2017

Hedy was the only hairdresser I ever had in my 34 years in Winnipeg. She always carried herself with class. We shared many experiences together during my hours of sitting in her chair. She will be missed by her many friends and clients. Hedy was more than my hairdresser she was my friend. My heart goes out to Karen, Brian and all her family. Rest in peace Hedy. - Posted by: Bev.
