The family moved to Regina in 1939 and Joe joined the Navy in early 1943. He was initially employed by the Hudson's Bay Company and then by the Federal Government, Meteorological Branch where he retired in 1981. While with the government, he enjoyed postings of a few years duration in the Canadian Arctic, Nova Scotia and the State of Illinois. His retirement years were spent in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Winnipeg and Carman, Manitoba. Joe was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joyce, his son Bill, sister Mary, brother John, and Meg's mother Liz. He is survived by his daughter Mary Ellen, grandchildren: Alanna, Bryce, Laurissa, Kailey and Meg, his sisters Aileen and Bernadette, and brother Pat. Interment at Assumption Cemetery in the spring. And this is what death should be, a quiet choice, made joyfully, because the body has been kindly used to help along the journey home to God. The body is thankful for all the service it has provided, I am also thankful there is no further need to walk the world of limits. The Christ no longer seen in the hidden forms and seen only in lovely flashes. I can now behold him without blinders. It is called death but it is a liberty now I go in peace to free air and gentler climate, where it is not hard to see the gifts I gave were saved for me.
