GERALD (JERRY) EDWARD DELISLE It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerald Edward Delisle, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the age of 82 years. Left to cherish Jerry's memory is his loving wife Frances; daughters, Kelly (Les), from Lac du Bonnet, MB, Sandi (Rick), from Langley, BC, stepdaughter Teri-Lee (Merner) Dubberley (Rob) and granddaughter Ava, from Calgary, Alberta, Rob's children, Kate and Mark, and his furry animals, Patches and Gabby. He was predeceased by his father Edward Delisle; mother Mary Delisle and brother Norman Delisle. Jerry was born in Dawson Creek, BC, the eldest of four children. He grew up in Winnipeg, MB and in the later part of his young life he lived on Corydon Avenue, followed by Harper Avenue in Windsor Park with his children, whom he brought up as a single father and adored. Jerry took his girls on many memorable road trips with family and spent time visiting his daughter Sandi in BC. Kelly and Sandi meant the world to him. He then met his soulmate Fran, and they married in their backyard in 1993. Jerry always loved a good party! They were together 33 loving years travelling, entertaining, laughing, sharing stories, watching sports, and enjoying life to its fullest. Jerry was adored by many, especially his stepdaughter Teri-Lee, who considered him a father figure and friend, as well as the Merner family who welcomed him as he did in return and spent many wonderful years building lasting friendships. At the age of 18, Jerry started his career as a Winnipeg Fire Fighter, spending 20 years at Hall #1, and retired as District Chief in 1994 after having served 36 plus years. Fondly known as the "Frog" by his comrades, he had many close friends, some of which were Al MacDonald "Maggie", Len Percival "Percy", Bruce Palmer "Brucey" and Wayne Evans "Wayney" and Garry McLellan 'Garry'. Jerry was also known as G.G. for grumpy Grampa as Ava would call him as a result of him constantly giving her the 'claw'. Though Jerry was never grumpy this stuck. They had a very special and close relationship. G.G. always loved when she would come in from Calgary and show off her new dance moves. Jerry had a passion for hockey, playing in his junior and senior school leagues, followed by the Fire Fighter League. And, of course Jerry and his wife Fran were avid followers of all sports, there were always multiple channels going at once from game to game if you were visiting. He was never sitting still for long, always working around the house or yard. A real jack of all trades. After retiring, Jerry and Fran were able to enjoy the areas of Pinawa and Lac du Bonnet (Lee River). Golfing, fishing and enjoying lake life with family and friends reminiscing, playing games and all out just being with the people he loved and adored. Jerry had an adventurous spirit, wonderful sense of humour, kind heart, could cover an array of topics in conversations that everyone that knew him of all ages enjoyed, a laugh and smile that never faded and a great head of hair right to the end. Jerry will be dearly missed by all his family and friends, and forever in our hearts. On Friday, December 15, 2017, Jerry's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. The family would like to send a special thank you to all the staff, nurses, aides, as well as a big thank you to Maureen who really went above and beyond from Seven Oaks Hospital, 4th floor for their care over these past nine months. Thank you to cousins, Joanie and Andy, from Edmonton, who made the trip multiples times to see and support Jerry and Fran, though everyone who spent time or sent wishes we are grateful for. Jerry had a close bond with his daughter Kelly who is a nurse and whom spent much time attending to her dad, and helping Fran through these difficult few years.
