LESLIE WILLIAM ANTHONY HARPER June 13, 1924 November 29, 2017 Les Harper passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, November 29. He was predeceased by his sister Olive Beck; and is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Laurie (Scott); granddaughters, Lisa (Pape), Christen, Amber (Don); and grandchildren, Isabella, Lily and Jacob. Les also leaves many nieces and nephews to mourn. Les was born and raised in Montreal and served in the Air Force in the Second World War, where he met Jean. After he survived a bout of polio, they married and lived in Elmwood and East Kildonan. Les worked at Carlings Brewery and the Royal Bank. He loved sports and golfed until he was 80. Les enjoyed his Saturdays with the Curtis Social Club. Les's most outstanding quality was his outgoing personality. He made acquaintances of strangers and made friends wherever he went. Les was proud to celebrate his 70th anniversary with his beloved Jean, last April. Special thanks to niece Maureen Scarsbrook for her loving care and support. Gratitude goes to Brad Childe for his handyman skills and friendship. Thanks to Concordia Village for a year of hospitality and fine meals. Dr. Mohammed and Concordia Hospital thoughtfully eased Les's passage. DVA provided wonderful support over the years. Les has been cremated. A service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 11:00 a.m. at the Concordia Village chapel, 1125 Molson St. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

  • As a colleague at RBC, if anyone said the name Les Harper, you would smile. I had the pleasure of working with Les at Main Branch Winnipeg in the mid ‘80s. if my Dad Les Alexander was with us today, he too would agree that Les was truly one of a kind. Les had a twinkle in his eye and a sense of humour that was contagious . God Bless you Les . - Posted by: Cathy Alexander (Colleague) on: Dec 07, 2017

  • Our condolences to Jean and family . Sincerely from your long time neighbor and friend, The Sweetland Family. - Posted by: The Sweetland family (Neighbor) on: Dec 07, 2017

  • Les was a charter member of the Nights of the Roundtable at the Curtis social club. He always offered conversation, and humour to the weekly meet, as well as a point of view when required. I felt fortunate to be a friend of his, albeit not as long as some of the other club members. His usual comment to me as he was leaving the meet used to be "Whatever your thinking of doing, Don't over due it, and then laugh. He will be missed.
