GIOVANNA SARTOR (nee VINCI) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanna, our dear wife, mother and grandmother, with her family by her side, on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Giovanna will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Italo; children, Nino Cantafio (Zelia), Maria Cerminara (Tony) and Paolo Sartor (Vicky); grandchildren Antonino, Marisa, Valentina, Anthony, Matteo and Mikol, and her siblings, Rosina Masi, Carmela Vokrri, Frank Vinci (Gisèle), Joe Vinci (Evelyn) and Ralph Vinci (Mary). She was predeceased by her first husband Guido Cantafio, her parents Carmelo and Felicia Vinci, and her brothers-in-law, Angelo Masi and Giuseppe Vokrri. Also predeceased by her in-laws in Italy: Primo Sartor (Norma), Maria Facca (Gino) and Claudia Sartor. Giovanna was born on August 27, 1935 in Amato, Italy. She immigrated to Winnipeg at the age of 17 on December 12, 1952. Here she began working as seamstress in a sewing factory. Alongside raising two children, Nino and Maria, she worked at King George Hospital. In 1967, Giovanna married Italo and they had a son, Paolo. Giovanna then worked part-time at K-Mart and Woolco in the Fabric Department. Giovanna was a very faith-filled woman and her many passions included sewing, cooking, baking, gardening and learning the English language. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Road, with Father Sam Argenziano as the Celebrant. Viewing and condolences will begin one hour prior to Mass. Entombment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. She was deeply loved and will be forever fondly remembered THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • I am deeply sorry for your loss. Your families have been in our lives since I was born. It was so wonderful to see "auntie" Giovanna last summer, always so happy and full of cheer. To uncle Italo, Paulo and Vicky, Nino and Zelia and Maria and Tony and your families, my thoughts are with you. It is devastating to lose a parent, I won't say time heals as the loss is always there.
