Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My sincere condolences. Ken and Lou-Anne were the youth group leaders for several wonderful years at Sturgeon Creek UC. I recall Ken taking me aside and offering quiet and firm direction to me as the youth group prepared for a Christmas Eve service. His words were quite right and delivered in a way that I not only knew I should accept his direction, but I wanted to do so. Ken also gave me some coaching regarding calculus, which I managed to remember almost until the final exam in the course. Still, he smiled and gave encouragement. I lost touch when I moved from Winnipeg, but his name has come up in conversation over the years and the memories always make me smile. - Posted by: Marshall Kern (Student) on: Dec 10, 2017

  • Love to Lou-Anne, Kevin and Tracey, Kristin, Dan and Logan. I have so many fond memories of our families together and spending time playing in your basement, I remember one year, we attempted to sleep at your place during a New Year's Eve party and Kim and I failed miserably at the sleeping part. Mr. Buhr carried me all the way home, wrapped in my blanket. I am blessed to have had so many of my childhood memories intertwined with your family. I am glad that I got to visit the house this summer and that is the image that will stay in my mind. You could clearly see the love he had for Logan and was beaming the whole time. xo - Posted by: Susan Sullivan (Family Friend) on: Dec 10, 2017

  • Lou-Anne and family, we are saddened today learn that Ken has joined the ranks of the angels. As the obituary states, Ken was "a genuinely good man". He will be missed by many. We will cherish the memories of the opportunities afforded us and the good times we had together in the engineering profession in Manitoba. - Posted by: Bev and Garland Laliberte (Friends) on: Dec 10, 2017

  • It was with shock and sorrow that I read of Ken's untimely passing. I was a young engineer when Ken became my boss at the Manitoba Water Services Board 39 years ago. He was a great mentor. Three years later, Ken and I entered consulting engineering with partner Alf Poetker. Ken was a great partner, a source of strength during our early years as we worked hard to establish our firm in a difficult time of economic recession. Aside from bringing great geotechnical expertise to our firm, his aptitude and interest in administrative and financial tasks helped guide us to the better times which did follow. I was very proud of Ken when he was elected President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba (APEM). Several years after our firm was acquired by a larger western company, Ken moved on to another consulting firm before taking on the role of managing administrative services at APEM, a job he really loved, My own career paralleled Ken's as I eventually moved into a senior management and administrative role, and emulating him as I became President of several associations. I wonder now if he really understood how much of an influence he had on my life. While we did meet for lunch from time to time, we eventually lost touch as our lives drifted in different directions. I still reminisce about all those lunches we shared when our MWSB office was at Ellice and Young, across from Homer's and a long-lost Salisbury House. We frequented many more restaurants when we established our consulting offices in west Fort Garry. The memories often return when I drive by one of them. My wife Bert and I extend our condolences to Lou-Anne, Kevin and Kristen, of whom Ken was always so proud. Rest in peace, Ken, I will remember you in my prayers. - Posted by: Bill Brant (Former colleague) on: Dec 09, 2017

  • It was my distinct pleasure to be engaged in the council and committee work and social activities in the APEGM. He was always a thoughtful and engaging person of high ethics and moral fibre.
