DONALD THOMAS MCDONALD July 12, 1933 - November 28, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Don, surrounded by his family. Don was born and grew up on the farm in Red Jacket, Saskatchewan. In 1959, Don graduated from Radio College in Toronto. After being hired by the CBC in 1960, he transferred to Winnipeg in 1966. It was through the CBC that he met his wife Elaine. They were married on December 7, 1968. After 30 years of working at a job he loved, he retired in 1990. He continued to work part-time for the CBC, Winnipeg Enterprises, Treehouse TV and APTV until retiring for good at age 80! In 2000, Don and Elaine bought their cottage in Clear Lake. Don designed and rebuilt it into what it is today. It was his "little piece of heaven". He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, his beautiful daughters, Cathy (Robert) Helms and Karen (Serge) Gautron, wonderful granddaughters, Susannah and Megan Helms, Lily, Kaya and Dharma Gautron and his special little grandson Ronin Lysak. Don was predeceased by his parents, Alice and John; his brothers, Herbert and Walter as well as his sister Margaret Derry. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. R. George, Dr. Joshua, the nurses and health care aides on the 5th floor NW of the Grace Hospital. If friends so desire, memorial donation in Don's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. A private interment will follow. "It was always you.
