DAVID RUSSELL PARKER September 25, 1956 - December 6, 2017 Peacefully, on December 6, 2017, David Russell Parker, aged 61, passed away with family and close friends by his side at Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit. David was born in Winnipeg on September 25, 1956. He will be remembered by people as a kind and gentle soul, with a keen mind. He taught us all about dealing with the challenges that life puts before you with grace and dignity. As a kid, David developed a passion for sports, which started with karate and the discipline and coordination that it helped him develop. He also ran track and cross country in school and played basketball. In the summers, he often enjoyed playing tennis with his dad. However, playing organized football, including with the Fort Garry Lions, was where he found his real joy as a teen. He continued to love the game of football for the rest of his life. Although playing sports was much more his passion as a teen than was academics, he entered the University of Manitoba in the fall of 1974. He turned his focus and attention to his studies and completed two graduate degrees: a Masters of Arts in European History and a Masters of Public Administration. Following university, public service became David's professional calling and he spent much of his working career at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg in various departments, including Human Resources. David was predeceased by his parents, Clare Parker and Edith Parker. He leaves his sister Kathy Parker and her husband Fred Florence, along with wonderful family and friends to celebrate his life. A memorial and celebration of his life gathering will be held at the Thomson Funeral Chapel at 669 Broadway Avenue in Winnipeg, on Tuesday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and dedication in making David's last days as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0X4 (204) 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to: www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
