RAFINA RITA COX Rafina Rita Cox, she was born on October 24, 1935 in Trinidad and Tobago. She moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the 1960s, where she would further her education by obtaining her Registered Nursing degree. She has worked in several hospitals and nursing homes during her career while in Winnipeg and Toronto. She dedicated her life and spent 50 plus years as a RN/Charge Nurse, some of which include Victoria, St. Boniface, SunnyBrook Health Science Centre, Misericordia, Deer Lodge and Sharon Home. Despite her busy schedule and her hectic career, she ensured that her children came first. She would drive, cart equipment, fundraise, organize all sporting schedules, school schedules and after school activities, ensuring that everyone made their events. Her ultimate goal was witness her children succeed, excel and reach their highest potential. She returned to Winnipeg in 2010 after a period of time in Toronto (20 years) and lived with her daughters for a period of time, until she was admitted to Park Manor Nursing Home. Words cannot express the deep sadness felt for the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother and aunt on December 7, 2017, at the Concordia Hospital. She leaves behind her four children, Melinda, Leanna-Fay, Andrea, Peter (Dianna); seven grandchildren, Shane (Tanya), Kayla, Hayden (Jessica), Devin, Matthew, Jordon and Justyce; five great-grandchildren, Tyrece, Brooklyn, Tyaundra, Miles and Maxwell, and many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the nurses and staff on the 2nd floor of Park Manor Nursing Home for their compassion, love and care for our mother (Mummy). We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital (palliative care) for helping our beloved mother's transition with dignity and pride. We invite you to join us in celebrating the incredible life of this beloved women, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service. Reception to follow. The service will be streamed live to the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Kidney Foundation or Arthritis Society of Manitoba. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • The Joshua Family of Canada/Trinidad is extending heartfelt sympathy to the Cox family on the passing of our cherished family friend. Ursula (my mom) remembers Rita as a "kind, generous person. She was like a sister to me. The memories of the community gardening that we both contributed to in Scarborough county was one of the projects that bonded us together. The late night phones call will be greatly missed. She will forever be in my heart." May her soul rest in peace. - Posted by: Ursula Rose Joshua (Dear friend of Rita Rafina Cox) on: Dec 13, 2017
