ROSE MARIE FAY (nee DEMKIW) July 11, 1938 December 6, 2017 Our mother, Rose Marie Fay, passed peacefully from this world on December 6, 2017, surrounded by family. Mom was born on July 11, 1938, the eldest child of Nicholas and Victoria Demkiw. Mom grew up on the family farm in Rosser until her teen years, when she moved into the city and attended Cecil Rhodes and Tec-Voc schools. This early farm life instilled in her a love of nature and all animals, large and small, which lasted through her lifetime (as evidenced by her abundance of wildlife photographs). Our parents were married in May of 1962 and thus began a true partnership of love and devotion that spanned 55 years. Our mom was a very quiet, unassuming and gentle soul who always put her family and friends before herself. She was the greatest supporter of her children and grandchildren in all their school and athletic endeavors. She was actively involved in the community in various capacities throughout our childhood. It was volunteering in our school library which resulted in her employment with Winnipeg School Division One as a library clerk for more than 20 years. Our dad was very big on community involvement and taking on various projects, but anyone who knew our parents, realized that the majority of the work and organization was primarily completed by our mom. Our parents were very much a team in all that they did and never hesitated to help others. Mom truly was the backbone of our family and our dad's right hand. Our childhood was filled with special meals, surprise lunches of home-made French fries, specialty cakes and her baking, especially at Christmas and Easter. Her family was most important to her and she showed her love in so many ways. She was very skilled with a sewing machine (our matching outfits attested to that), crochet hook, knitting needles and her latest labour of love, the quilting squares. We are blessed that each child and grandchild has a beautiful homemade quilt to remember her by. Leaving to mourn her loss is her husband of 55 years, Russell; son Ronald (Barbara, grandchildren, Nicholas and Laura); daughters, Kathryn Nagy (Bill, grandchildren, Lisa and Jessica) and Anne Marie Bailey (Kevin). She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Victoria, and her brother, Eugene. A celebration of her life was held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre. A private family interment to take place at a later date. Thank you to all our family and friends for the love and support that has been showered on our parents in so many ways over the past few years, especially the last four months with mom's illness. In her memory, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
