ROY BROWN In the afternoon on December 10, 2017, Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Deirdre, his children, Claire, Susan, Gillian, Richard and Jeremy, their spouses and families. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Hilda, his sister Patricia and son-in-law Lawrence. Dad was born August 12, 1932 in Wallasey, Cheshire, England. He grew up in Liverpool and took his general and psychiatric nursing and teaching at the University of London. In 1964, Dad and Mom immigrated to Canada with their three young daughters to take a position teaching psychiatric nursing in Selkirk. In 1966, we moved to Winkler after Dad became CEO of the hospital there. Soon after the move Richard was born. In 1970, Dad was offered the position of CEO in Flin Flon to oversee the building of a new hospital. Nine happy years were spent in Flin Flon, including the birth of Jeremy. Dad loved the outdoors, the lakes, boating and fishing. Summers were at the cottage he built and many memories were made there. In 1979, Dad and Mom settled in Winnipeg. Dad finished his career in health care as CEO of Deer Lodge Centre, retiring in 1996. Over the course of Dad's career, he was awarded for his many contributions to health care and his community. One he was extremely proud of was The Paul Harris Fellow Award for Vocational Excellence from the Rotary Foundation. Part of Dad's heart was always in England and he and Mom were able to vacation there many times. Dad's life revolved around his family and he will be greatly missed. We would like to thank the palliative care team for their support, especially the nurses who came to visit. Your kindness and compassion meant so much to us. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Family will be accepting condolences beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Dad requested donations to be made to The Dream Factory, 1 Wesley Avenue #303, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.
