NORMAN ERIC PATTERN December 4, 1927 - December 13, 2017 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Pattern on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Betel Nursing Home in Gimli, Manitoba. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret, his daughter Penny Ross and son-in-law Don Ross. He is also survived by his brother Don Pattern (Marlene) and sister Sheila Wilson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norm spent his early years in St. James and as a young adult took up carpentry as a trade. Shortly after marrying Margaret, he took a position with Canada Post, where he worked for almost 32 years, until he took early retirement at age 56. He and Margaret purchased a cottage at Whytewold Beach in the late 1970s and fell in love with the Interlake. Upon retiring, they decided to stay in the area and purchased a home in Matlock where they spent many happy years. He loved his golf games with his friends and family members, he curled in a number of leagues and enjoyed being in the Post Office's Chess Club, where he won several trophies. He was active in the Matlock community, attending many community events, and spent many hours tending to his flower and vegetable gardens in his yard in Matlock. He and Margaret enjoyed taking the odd trip and spent time in Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Florida, Las Vegas and Hawaii. Norm enjoyed a long and healthy retirement up until the last few years. We extend a sincere thank you to the medical and nursing staff at the Betel Nursing Home, especially Dr. R. C. Patel, who took such good care of Norm.
