A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at The Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street. I'm so sorry to hear of Pastor Kunkel's passing, and offer my heartfelt condolences to his family. As pastor of our parish, he touched my life is many ways. He was very involved with us youth, had fun with us at retreats but also took our Christian education to heart at these events as well as through formal pre-communion and confirmation classes. I still remember much of what he taught me. He was a Rock in our congregational life, and became a personal friend of my family over decades. It's special that he married my parents in 1958 in Rosenfeld, and returned to Canada from Liberia to be our past at St. Stephen's, confirming both me and my brother. We were so honoured that he attended my parents 50th wedding anniversary in 2008 and gave a wonderful speech enjoyed by all.
