THEODORE HOLUNGA Ted was born on April 15, 1921 in Lennard, Manitoba in the Municipality of Boulton. Raised on the homestead farm, he left his home at the age of 16 years, in the spring of 1936, joining his brother Nestor by rail to Ontario landing in Timmins, Port Arthur, Ontario to seek work where he was employed at the Bush Camps. He had a number of other jobs along his way, always learning and helping his fellow man, travelling to British Columbia by rail in search of work, as these years were the 1930s. Upon returning to Ontario he settled in Hamilton, always finding employment. Voluntarily he joined the military in January 1942 and was honourably discharged due to medical issues in June 1943. He secured other work and met and married Anita Pearl Byrnes and together they raised a family after moving to Bluewing, MB in the spring of 1946. Self-taught in auto body repairs and painting, he took many courses to upgrade his skills and maintained accreditations for his self-owned business ventures which he began in 1952 in Inglis, MB known as Ted's Autobody. He and the family moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1972 where Dad opened and operated another shop known as T4 Auto Body Ltd., which remains today and is operated by his three sons. Dad dedicated his life to his two churches, St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church and St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church and to his family. In 1973, he became one of the original founders of St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church, and was an alter helper for many years. He was known to his family for his wisdom and mentorship. His children and grandchildren have been blessed to know him for his many stories of the "old times", all of which were a part of his life which were lessons to all of us. Ted was predeceased by six siblings, his parents, infant son Roger in 1955, and his beloved wife, Anita in 1998. Ted will be lovingly remembered by his five children Arleen (late husband Rick Wagner), Terry (Brenda), Tom (Elizabeth), Tim (late wife Shirley) and Catherine (Danny Davis); 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are his grandsons Rick Wagner, Blair Wagner, Byron Wagner, Demetrios Holunga, Ted Holunga, Steven Davis, Roger Holunga and Gregory Holunga. Prayers will be held Thursday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church, 103 Furby Street, Winnipeg with Reverend Father Victor Malanca officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. A memorial luncheon to follow interment at St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church in the basement hall at 103 Furby Street.
