BRIAN LARUS JAKOBSON 1933 2017 Peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, Brian Jakobson passed away at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli on December 19, 2017. Brian was born on July 4, 1933 in Winnipeg. He was raised in the west - end and attended General Wolfe, Greenway and Daniel MacIntyre schools. His career path led him into sales and he worked as a manufacturer's agent under his company name of TarTam Sales Ltd. Brain's love for Gimli started at an early age when he spent summers at his parent's cottage on Third Avenue. He made many life long friends there. He acquired a cottage in Loni Beach and spent as much time as he could there. He loved to entertain at the cottage and would have bon fires every chance he could. He was known as the "fire master" and could burn anything as long as there was a gas can nearby. He and Susie built their dream home in Pelican Beach where they retired. Brian was a gentleman who enjoyed breakfast at Sals, a beer at the "oldie", a good cup of coffee, reading, politics, gardening, cats, golf, watching football, hunting and fishing. Brian was very proud of his Icelandic heritage. He gave back to the community through involvement in the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, serving as President and on any committee that needed help. He is a life member and a member of the Althing. He was a member of the Betel Home Foundation Board of Directors, serving as Chairman. He was proud to be involved in the construction of Betel Home in Gimli as well as Betelstadur in Winnipeg. Brian was predeceased by his parents Steindor and Halldora and his brother Steini; sister-in-law LeBeau Jakobson and brother-in-law Peter O'Hara. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Susie, his daughters Tara and husband Dale Schreyer and Tami and husband Gord Schirlie. He is also survived by his brothers children Brent and Cary as well as Susie's family Barry and Alida Erickson, Marilyn and Rick Klimczak, Joanne O'Hara, Brad and Tannis Erickson and many nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn his passing are extended family and friends throughout Canada and Iceland. Brian started his journey through the health care system in 2012. Over the years he met many people in all walks of life. We would like to thank all of you who took the time to return a smile, say hello, take his extended hand or spent time talking to him. He loved people and we appreciate the time you gave him. Bless, Bless In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations to the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba Legacy Fund, Betel Home Foundation, Gimli or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Brian's wishes there will be no formal service. His ashes will be interred at the Arnes Community Cemetery in the summer. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
