Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. STEPHEN SZIROM June 3, 1928 - December 19, 2017 It is with a sad heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Stephen Szirom, beloved husband (64 years) of Elizabeth Szirom. He will be dearly missed by his wife, family here in Canada and in Hungary, and many friends and colleagues. Stephen was a dedicated family physician who worked tirelessly and was much loved and respected by all who knew him. Even though he was retired for many years, he could hardly walk down a Winnipeg street without someone recognizing him and warmly greeting him. According to the family's wishes, there will be no formal service. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church located at 371 Burnell St. (204-772-8140). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Many thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre for the professional care and kindness shown to Stephen. "Isten Veled Dragam" NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

I was very sad today to meet Betty in our condo building and learn that her beloved husband, Stephen, had passed away. We have lived in the same building for about four years, while the Szirom's were among the original residents close to 40 years ago. We often saw them walking arm in arm in the Corydon area, like to lovebirds, supporting one another. And at the Symphony enjoying the music and rich culture of Winnipeg. They are very well liked in our building. We wish Betty many blessings in her time of mourning. Blessed are they who mourn, they will be comforted. Dr. Szirom was our family doctor. He was a great doctor and a great man. He always had a smile or a joke, no matter the situation. He never hesitated to make house calls when it was necessary. My sister and I, and our spouses, visited him in Winnipeg, and each time, it was a joy. Steve and Betty were so hospitable. We shared many memories and many laughs during these visits. He will be missed but never forgotten. Betty, may the Lord comfort you with the peace that passes human understanding, and may your memories of your wonderful husband sustain you through this time of sorrow and loss. - Posted by: Maxine Lantz (Moquin) (Friend and patient) on: Dec 31, 2017

Betty, you are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss Steve so much! How we treasure the memories we enjoyed with you and Steve here in Florida. How precious your friendship has been to Bob and me over the years. Steve was a special man and a special doctor. For so many years he took such wonderful care of my family as our family doctor - there was no one better! He is gone but will never be forgotten. Our prayer is that the good Lord will comfort you in your loss. We love you! - Posted by: Bob & Lynda Taylor (Friend & patient) on: Dec 29, 2017

Of course Dr. Szirom was our family Dr., as well as my wife’s when we got married. (nee Asselin) Many doctor patient stories but leave those for The Lancet! He was a good friend as well as being a good doctor. I saw him from about 8 years old until we moved away. My favourite times tho we’re when he and I shared chocolate covered donuts and coffee from the Sals across the street on Goulet. My wife and I now see a different MD at the clinic but I still see Steve in the examination rooms on 2... - Posted by: Rickey Keep (Patient and friend) on: Dec 23, 2017

Dr Szirom was our family doctor for many years. I have yet to find a doctor as good as he was. He was the only man at my baby shower. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many. Isten veled - Posted by: Irma Doornink (Gyori) (Patient and friend) on: Dec 23, 2017

Dr Szirom was my doctor from 4 years old through my 20's. It was a sad day when he retired. All through the years after his retirement I was never able to find another doctor as good as him. He was very caring and had a wonderful sense of humor. Not only was he a wonderful doctor but also a friend. He kept in touch with my mother and myself for many, many years after his retirement. He was one of the best. R.I.P. Doctor Szirom. - Posted by: Kim (Patient) on: Dec 23, 2017
