GLEN REGINALD LESTER Dad passed away at the age of 86 years, on December 20, 2017, at his home in his beloved Victoria Beach where he grew up, married, raised his family and enjoyed the beautiful world that God created. Predeceased by his precious son Rex Ferrade; brother Bert Trainor; sisters, Ellen Whyte (Walter), Vernon Lee and Marina Chapel. Survived by his wife Betty; brother Lorne (Anne); sister-in-law Helen Trainor; brother-in-law Jim Chapel; brother-in-law Cyril Ervick (Blanche); children, Glenda (Rory), Hope (Alan), Glenn and Gaye (Brian); grandchildren, Stephen (Candace), Eric (Katie), Sarah, Matthew, and Jason, great-grandchildren, Atia and Lucas, and beloved nieces and nephews. As a young man he was known for singing with his sister Marina at the Victoria Beach Clubhouse. He met his wife of 63 years, Betty, while delivering firewood to cottages, took her on their first date to the Moonlight Inn and would often regale the story of "how I met your mother" with great fondness. Dad had a strict work ethic, a strategic mind for business and became very successful during his 50 years in the extremely challenging field of mink ranching. His retirement was taken up by his massive garden, puttering in the yard, boat trips to Elk Island for blueberry picking and enjoying the company of his family. Dad was a master storyteller with memories from his childhood coming to life in animated humour. Many people would see Dad out walking toward his favourite trail to the "Cliffs" that became known to some as "Glen's Trail". He loved to stop and visit with relatives and old friends on his way back along the road. Glen's personal goal was to see all of his children educated and living happy, productive lives. We thank you Dad for your moral teachings, your love and forgiveness, devotion and generosity of spirit which we will forever cherish as the embodiment of who you were. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Michael's Church, Victoria Beach, MB with interment to follow in the Victoria Beach Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • Dear Lester Clan, Uncle Glen became one of my Best Friends in the Last Three Years. I so, so Love this man. He would come to the Lee Cottage on Wanasing for this Great Great Passionate Talks. We talked of World peace. We talked of things Looking Messy in the World as there was a New World Consciousness being birthed. We so, so became these wonderful passionate friends who saw this Amazing Magic. He embraced, his family. He embraced what Betty needed to feel safe. He embraced the Gratitude of what his world had become, and the love of his family. His love of each of children and who they were....he honored. He grew to understand each of their fears, as well as each of their strengths. He has great love and great gratitude for his wife Betty, all he is children and each of theirs. His last call to me was this: he was in a place of Joy, he was in a place where the God of his understanding was honouring him and his family. Our last words.... from me " I love you Uncle Glen...his words to Me " I love you Calli We ended all our conversations this way. Each time we said it....it was a NEW special meaning. i can not express enough to each and everyone of this Lester Family....your Dad, Husband, Grandpa, Greatgrandpa....LOVED and Cherished YOU in every moment and this will continue FOREVER Love, love and love...Michal 'Calli" Lee - Posted by: Calli Michal Lee (neice) on: Dec 23, 2017

  • My Uncle Glen was a gentleman of the highest caliber. He always had that twinkle in his eye and that wonderful chuckle when telling jokes or stories which he loved to do. He was quick to give praise to others and it was fun to listen to stories about he and his brothers and sisters and his Mom and Dad. He loved his wife Betty, his children and grandchildren very very much. He had the respect of all that knew him. Annette and I always enjoyed our visits with Uncle Glen and Aunt Betty when we returned to the cottage at Wanasing each summer. We will miss him tremendously and hope that Aunt Betty is doing well trusting that Uncle Glen is with his maker. Uncle Glen will be in my heart every time I come home to Manitoba. Love to Aunt Betty and my cousins, Markham and Annette Lee - Posted by: Markham Lee (Nephew) on: Dec 23, 2017

  • I remember going up going up the hill in Victoria Beach to play with my cousins and later on (when old enough to drink tea) sitting around the big table drinking tea and talking with Uncle Glen and Auntie Betty and whoever else was there. I remember more than anything Uncle Glen's sense of humor and the lively expression on his face when he told stories. - Posted by: Wanda Lester (Niece) on: Dec 23, 2017

  • Our Tom Lester family condolences to the Glen Lester immediate family and friends. "Uncle Glen" was a gentleman his whole life and I fondly remember him from my youth from visits to his mink ranch to the "not enough" family gatherings over the years. He lived 86 years in Victoria Beach and is the longest neighborhood icon that I know of from the area. His warm eyes and friendly smile will be missed by all who met him.
