Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) STEWART HICKS James "Jim" Stewart Hicks passed away on December 24, 2017 at the age of 92 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dona in 2010. He is survived by his two sons, James Brian of Nanaimo, BC and Robert Roy of Chilliwack, BC; daughter Dona Burns (Corey) of Winnipeg; four granddaughters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. Jim was born, raised, educated and lived his entire very active life in Winnipeg. Even though he and Dona were able to travel extensively, he always looked forward to getting back to Winnipeg. Jim attended Champlain, Machray and Gordon Bell Schools and in 1948, graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After six years with the Transmission and Engineering Department at the Manitoba Telephone System, he joined the Inspection Division of the City of Winnipeg. He held various positions within the Division and was its head for many years. At the time of his retirement in 1987, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental Planning. Jim was very active on many committees relating to Electrical and Building Codes and had received many awards for his service. He had also been quite active in various community affairs. He was most proud of the recognition he received from his peers when he was made an Honourary Life Member of the Association Professional Engineers of Manitoba and was awarded both their Merit Award and Outstanding Service Award. He was also awarded a fellowship by Engineers Canada. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Avenue with Lorraine Mackenzie Shepherd officiating.
