JOHN DYNKAVITCH On Friday, December 29, 2017, John passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 79 years. John was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (nee Ewatski); his sister Phyllis and brothers-in-law, Romeo and Sonny (Alexander). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; his daughter Sandra (Bill Toews) and son Bill (Carol); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ryan), Matthew, Alex and Mike and great-grandsons, Jordan, Kaiden and Logan; sister-in-law Janet; special nieces, Mary (Ernie) and Rose (Marion); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. John was born on May 22, 1938 and was raised on College Avenue by the tracks, across the back lane from his longest friend, Cheba (Bob Nietrzeba). When he was just 16 years old, he started work at Manitoba Bridge and worked there until 1980. In 1959 he got his taxi license and drove taxi. He also worked alongside another good friend, Wally Chudo, driving tow trucks when his help was needed. After MB Bridge he worked doing fitting at a number of other shops around town and then, in 1986, started his own company, Guardian Iron Works. He contributed to the workings of the business until the middle of November, when his health prevented him from going to the shop. That didn't stop him from talking and working with his son Bill, to make sure things continued to run smoothly. Over the years, John was a union rep, played on the Manitoba Bridge baseball team and was part of the Manitoba Bridge curling club for many, many years, as a player, organizer and chairperson. He enjoyed boating and actually built a houseboat with his brother-in-law Sonny, and then did a reno to double the size. There was snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, golfing, riding his Harley motorcycle in the 50s, with his good friend Jim Schwab and again, in the early 2000s (different bike, still Harley) and still with Jim Schwab. John enjoyed bird watching (the Purple Martins in his backyard bird house), he loved to dance at weddings and socials (until his legs were too sore) and enjoyed talking about world events with the coffee crew each morning at Robin's. A service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to the Seven Oaks General Hospital (SOGH) Foundation or a charity of your choice.
