JOYCE LILLIAN HENDERSON Joyce Lillian Henderson (nee Parsons), aged 89, died peacefully on January 4, 2018 at Actionmarguerite in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband, David V. Henderson, and her parents, Lillian and Edward Parsons. Mom was born in Winnipeg, August 3, 1928. She grew up with two older sisters, Evelyn and Genevieve, and a younger brother, George. After graduation from high school she became a "Great West Life Girl" where she met Monty Lee (nee Henderson), who subsequently introduced Mom to her brother David. She and David were married in September of 1950, and had three daughters, Leslie, Vicki and Lisa. Mom always joked about wanting six boys but that three girls were better because she then had a variety of "sons" around. With Dad being a pharmacist in the Armed Forces, Mom got to see some of the world - Shilo (MB), St. Louis (USA), Petawawa (ON), Vedder Crossing (BC), Shilo once again, Lahr (Germany), Egypt, and Victoria (BC), where they retired and bought their first home. Mom would joke about that too - that after 20 odd years of marriage, she and Dad were finally buying a house at the same time as her recently wedded niece was buying her first home. They had over 30 good years in that house before Dad died. During her 39 years living in Victoria, Mom worked as the Office Manager at the McPherson Playhouse and volunteered with the Women's Auxiliary at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Besides her three daughters, Joyce leaves behind her siblings, three sons-in-law: Dennis, Doug and Lorren; six grandchildren: Thea, Paige, Michael, Daniel, Andrew and Robert; numerous nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Mavis. Plans are for cremation and then a summer burial of ashes beside Dad in the family plot in Strathclair, MB. He has their joint tombstone waiting for her - his "wife and friendly adversary". A get-together for family and friends is planned for that time. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • On behalf of my Mother, Genevieve and all of us, our sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Bonnie Wright (Niece) on: Jan 17, 2018

  • Since my mom was born and raised in Winnipeg, and ultimately passed away in Winnipeg, it seems only appropriate that I quote another Winnipegger... "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Winnie the Pooh. - Posted by: Lisa Henderson (Daughter) on: Jan 07, 2018

  • What a beautiful smile. It's how I remember Aunt Joyce. Always smiling, welcoming and softly reassuring. Except two times. Once as a boy I shot a bird around the cottage at Salt Lake. Another time, on Uncle Dave's direction, I planted annual flowers in Aunt's wild perrenial gardens lining the driveway in Victoria. Nothing was said on these occasions, but when I saw Aunt Joyce, I knew. - Posted by: Jim (Nephew) on: Jan 07, 2018
