ETHEL PETRIEW 1922-2018 It is with great sadness that we announce that a beautiful light has been extinguished from this world. Ethel Petriew (nee Cechvala) passed away at her River Park Garden home on January 2, 2018, at the age of 95. She was surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband William Petriew, her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Cechvala, grandson Kelly, brothers Joe Cechvala, Cyril Cechvala, Frank Cechvala and Alphonse Cechvala, and sister Anne Cagala She leaves behind her children Steve (Susan), Albert, (Elana), Rose Legge, (Rob), and Debbie Hill. Her grandchildren, Mike (Carole), Brenda, Will, Mallory, Mason (Justine), Ryan (Alicia) and Shayne (Bridget) and her great-grandchildren Damion, Desiree, Rylan and Averie, brother John Cechvala and sister Mary Mojelsky, sisters-in-law Edna Cechvala and Diane Cechvala, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born October 30, 1922 in Korytne, Czechoslovakia, immigrating to Canada in 1938, settling in Dufresne/Rosewood. Her and dad married October 27, 1945, living with dad's parents until 1951. In 1953, the family was extended when dad's nieces, Julie and Diane came to live with them. Mom proudly worked as a nursing assistant at St. Boniface Hospital for 25 years. Mom lovingly took care of her mother from 1968 until she passed in 1991. Ethel always put her family and friends first. She was a giving, caring soul. She was always there with a meal, or support, whether it was asked of her or not. The family would like to thank the staff of River Park Gardens for the wonderful care that she was given. There will be a funeral on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette's Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society may be made in her name.
