Date of Passing: Dec 28, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (MAVIS) GLEDHILL (nee JOHNSON) 1938 - 2017 On December 28, 2017 Mavis lost her battle with cancer and passed away at the age of "29 and holding". She took her final breaths holding her son Allan's hand. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Chas in 2014, after over 50 years of marriage. Mom worked at TD Bank for her entire adult life. She also talked about her waitressing days at the Old Pony Corral on Pembina back in the late 1960s. She loved taking pictures and always had a camera in her pocket ready to take your picture. She was a beautiful artist, loved to tinker in her yard and enjoyed the Bomber, Jays and Jets games. Mom enjoyed her grandkids hockey, baseball games and in her recent years attending her grandson's speed skating. She also loved to spend time at the family cottage sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and floating around the lake on her inner tube. Mom's memory will be forever cherished by her sons Larry, Jeff, Allan and Scott and their partners; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wish to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and at Mom's request no formal service will be held. Our thoughts are with you four guys. Lots of good memories of your mom up at long lake when we were young. How that woman could cut a rug at socials and weddings. We miss both your parents deeply. - Posted by: Darryl & Cindy Gledhill (nephew) on: Jan 13, 2018

When Dennis and I first married, Chuck and Mave rented their upstairs apartment to us for several months before we found a house of our own. How would I describe that experience? I learned much about Mavis' patience and care for her favorite brother. I learned to appreciate the special relationship she had with her husband and her boys (only Larry and Jeff at that time). She was a good housekeeper and a great piano player. I never had a biological sister, but I learned to love Mavis like the sister I never had. I felt free to chat with her about many things. I will treasure the good times. - Posted by: Beth (Finch) Johnson (Sister-in-Law) on: Jan 07, 2018

I'm sorry about the passing of auntie Mavis she was like a second mom while I was growing up, I enjoyed listening to the stories her and uncle Charlie used to tell, I remember spending some nights there the one I remember the most was when I stayed over it was around Easter they gave me a big Easter egg with my name written on it I will never forget that I just loved it. Auntie Mavis and uncle Charlie are very caring people I was very lucky to be their niece I loved them both very dearly, auntie Mavis will be sadly missed she will be in my heart and soul forever. Mavis was the first neighbour to greet Boots and I to the neighbourhood. I always loved having our chats and yes she loved to take pictures of Boots or me and my grandkids. I have been looking for her on my walks and had not seen her for awhile. She never told me she had cancer. She will be happy to be with Chaz and I know she missed him terribly. Every time a plane went over she said there goes Chaz. I will miss her friendly dearly. My condolences to all of the family. To Larry ,Jeff, Allen and Scott. Your Mom was a wonderful lady. Remember her as a young woman and her Laugh and bubbly personality. She loved her boys and and softball. She was awesome at everything she did. Your parents were wonderful people and now they are together again.
