NORMAN KEITH MAYOR July 15, 1933 January 3, 2018 With great sadness, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Norman Keith Mayor passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on January 3, 2018 at Kelowna General Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Edna and Dossitor Mayor; brother Murray; his first wife Shirley, of 32 years; and grandson Bradley; daughter-in-law Lori; son-in-law Don. He will be missed by Lori (Don) Vandal and children, Keith, Lane and Janine; Doss (Shelley) Mayor and children, Kelley and Shanda; Craig (Lori) Mayor and children, Krystal and Bradley; Karen (Ralph) Mauthe and children, Tyler and Jill; Gwen (Tom) Ferguson and children, Chelsea, Shane, Cord and Michelle, and his 14 great-grandchildren. When Norm was just 15 years old, his Dad passed away in 1949, leaving Gladstone Garage to his wife and sons. Norm was groomed by his mother Edna and George Galloway and soon stepped into place and started managing the Ford dealership in 1952. In 1966, Dad purchased the International Harvester franchise, which was across the street from the Ford dealership. He managed both dealerships in Gladstone for 25 years. He worked many long hours at both dealerships in order to be a good provider for his family and his mother. The Ford dealership was the last car dealership in Gladstone to close their doors in 1984. In 1990, Dad, with his two sons, moved the amalgamated Case IH business to Neepawa, where he continued working until 2003, when he sold the business to his eldest son Doss. By now, Dad had been working for 51 years in total and was 70 years of age. Dad was a savvy businessman customer service was of the utmost importance to him. He taught us how to be considerate of others and was always a gentleman. Dad loved boating, swimming, waterskiing, hockey and snowmobiling. As a young man, he built his first two-seater speedboat in the basement and used it at Clear Lake to go waterskiing. He also built a cabin cruiser, which he and his young family used for many years at Lynch's Point, and then on to Sandy Lake where the family cottage was built. So many great memories there - every summer holiday, weekends and many Christmas' were spent there. Being a competitive guy - Dad liked having the fastest boat and liked to see how many skiers he could pull up - the most at one time was nine and he even got us and some of the neighbour kids to build a five-man pyramid.one of Dad's greatest accomplishments even to this day! We would load up the snow machines to take to the lake for the weekendif something broke Dad was our mechanic! Dad towing us on the Whitemud River on our home-made toboggan that held five kids was another family fun time. Then, when they moved to Kenora, we would go and fish, and spend time enjoying the beautiful home and waters there. At the age of 80, they relocated to Kelowna and we did our best to go and see him and keep in touch. We will all miss his Sunday night phone calls. Love you Dad, your kids!! Norm and Lois - We were together for 29 years. The Wallin family moved to Gladstone in March 1948, and Norm and my brother Garth became good friends. This early relationship gave us a good foundation when we reconnected in December 1988. We married in Gladstone on June 11, 1990. We had a busy and fulfilling life and we both thrived on "projects". When Norm sold his farm implement business and retired, we moved to Lake of the Woods, Ontario. One of our most ambitious projects was our home that we built together. Norm loved the water, boating and at age 65 spent his birthday water skiing. Norm also spent many hours in his workshop, it was meticulous, well stocked and his pride and joy. Crafts made by Norm's hand in his workshop were precious gifts. For 22 years, in the fall, we would travel to Mesa, Arizona. We enjoyed the warm winters in the sun, golfing and sharing great friendships with our snowbird friends. In 2014, British Columbia became our home and was where he passed away. Norm was a loving and devoted stepfather to my children and wonderful grandfather: Cameron, Susan (Sara, Jason, Megan); Greg, Laurie (Adam, Christopher, Annie); Kathie, George and Warren. We will all miss you so much but thankful for our precious time together. Someone once said that a good man is hard to find, but I know that's not always true I found a man who was warm, gentle, loving and caring. He was there when I needed him and made me feel needed too. I found a man who could be proud of who he was, He was loved and respected more than he realized. I found a man who was everything a good man could be. And the best part is - after I found him, I married him! Love always and forever, Lois. Celebration of Life and interment will be held at a later date.
