HELEN ELIZABETH COSLIK (WYNNYK) With broken hearts and a profound sense of loss, Helen's family announces her incredibly peaceful passing with family at her side on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. We will seek comfort in sharing our memories of our wonderful mother and grandmother. Helen was born Halley Elizabeth Wynnyk in Selkirk, Manitoba on June 25, 1931 - a birthday that she proudly shared with her daughter, who she celebrated with every year for 65 years, even when this meant travelling to Africa for a safari in 1980. She grew up in Fort Rouge, helping her parents in their grocery store where she met her future husband, Joseph, who helped out at the store. Though Helen lived in Winnipeg most of her life, as a young child she spent most summers in Selkirk where she made lasting bonds with her family there and many friendships. Helen treasured and doted on her family, bringing a spirit of expansive joy, generosity, and fun to any occasion. She and her husband spent winters in Hawaii and summers at their cabin at Winnipeg Beach, where she planted copious amounts of flowers and made everything look so beautiful and feel so comfortable. Helen loved music, singing in a choir at a young age and then later learning acoustic and Hawaiian guitar. On many Christmases, Helen played piano by ear and sang carols and hymns with her aunt- and they sang so well! Helen loved her work and was excellent at her work as an administrative secretary. She was always asked to stay on, but she preferred to move around and accept new challenges and opportunities. A few of the places Helen worked were Motor Coach Industries, Health Sciences Centre, the Armed Forces, private firms and companies, and various departments of government at the Manitoba Legislative building - and she loved them all. But Helen loved family first - devoted to caring for elderly parents, actually moving in with them for a time to help. She was devoted to her daughter and grandchildren, and also to her husband of 64 years. They had a rich and satisfying life together. She shared her love of Hawaii with her grandchildren, treating each of them to a special trip to Hawaii on their 10th birthday. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Coslik (2015), her parents, Bill and Jessie Wynnyk (1982, 2000), her brother, Russell Wynnyk (2002), her uncles, Joe Cholosky (1989), Mike Cholosky (1972), and Bill Cholosky (2016), as well as many in-laws and friends. Helen leaves to deeply mourn her passing her daughter, June (Bob), grandchildren Jolen (Peter), Tara (Lindsey), and Bryan, and her great-granddaughter, who she equally adored, Pascale. Helen cherished her grandchildren and was very proud of each of them, and they loved their Nan. They will remember her as being a larger-than-life personality who spoke her mind, believed in doing the right thing, and was always full of fun, a bit of mischief, and a heart overflowing with loving warmth and tenderness. Her legacy to us is the lessons we learned from her: always do your best; inch by inch everything's a cinch; and take care of family. We will try our best to live these lessons in our lives. Helen's family is deeply grateful to the staff - each and every one of you - of MP3 Misericordia Place, who looked after Helen so well and with so much love, respect, and caring. You have no idea the difference you make. Funeral service will be held on January 12, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Interment to follow. Flowers gratefully declined.
