ELNA KRISTINA BRODDY
Date of Passing: Jan 09, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELNA KRISTINA BRODDY Elna Kristina Broddy (nee Turnlund), of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully, 96 years young, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, to be reunited with her husband, William 'Bill'; her sisters, Florence Overgaard, Sally Durnin, and brother George Turnlund. Elna was born in Eidsvold, Norway in 1921 and came to Canada as a young girl, extremely proud of her Norwegian and Swedish roots, often considering herself more Norwegian than Canadian. Elna became a War Bride to Bill on December 25, 1941, spending her early years as a mother and wife, between Bagotville, Little Norway in Muskoka and Centre Island, Southhampton, St. George and Walkerton before ending up in Winnipeg where Bill's work with Canada Packers and family took them. Elna enjoyed volunteering in many activities but was mostly known for her work in 'public relations' for Loblaws at Polo Park. Elna always enjoyed and reminisced of the family get-togethers on special occasions, Durnin TGIFs or summer holidays especially after losing her independence when her sight diminished and mobility issues arose. Elna is survived by her son David 'Rick' in Ottawa; his daughter Nancy; many nieces, nephews, their families and of course her relatives in Norway. Elna enjoyed numerous road trips to Ottawa and Southern Ontario for visits the past few years. To honour her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will occur at a later date. Many thanks to her companion Lorraine over the past two years and more recently Brenda at West Park Manor. Special thanks to the caregivers at West Park Manor who have the often-challenging task of looking after us during our 'golden' years. Memorial donations to West Park Manor or the 17 Wing Care and Share Benevolent Fund would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
