JIM SKINNER Jim passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg. He is survived by his partner Lori Gervais; daughter Julie Newman (Bryan); grandchildren, Lily and Eleanor; stepchildren Justin (Jae), Jessica (Jonas), and Jennifer, as well as by his brother Ken Skinner (Susan); nephews, Jordan (Allison) and Matthew (Kaela) and ex-wife Linda Skinner. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Reeve and Doreen Skinner. Born August 9, 1950 in Winnipeg, Jim attended Kelvin High School and The University of Winnipeg. With a natural talent for engineering, Jim quickly worked his way to the top at Ringball Corporation and Vanguard Steel, where he only recently retired as general manager at the end of 2016. For the last 15 years, Jim lived in Balsam Harbour on Lake Winnipeg, or "Paradise North" as he called it. He loved the outdoors, especially the lake, and was truly happy being there and sharing it with his family. Loyal, trustworthy, and compassionate, Jim was everyone's rock, always there to help and give advice with a smile and a hug. Over the past 6 years, Jim's battle against cancer has been unprecedented, and is a testament to his positive attitude, lust for life, and love of his family. He never gave up, never lost hope, never complained, and always made everyone laugh with his unique sense of humour. Even after 98 chemo treatments, he maintained a positive attitude, and when asked how he was doing he would always answer, "better than yesterday". He was truly an inspiration, and set the standard to which we all strive to achieve. Special thanks go out to Dr. David Kinsley of Interlake Surgical, Dr. Richard R. Lindenschmidt, Dr. David Wong and all the wonderful nursing staff in the CancerCare Department and Surgical Department of Selkirk General Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 6, 2018 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Lake Winnipeg Foundation or the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated by the family. www.lakewinnipegfoundation.org/donate THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com

I will miss Jim, and his love with snowmobiling. I have had the pleasure of dealing & helping him with this passion for around 20 years! He was the most honorable, toughest, fun to be around man i know. Loved his family and life at the lake! I now own one of his sleds, and will keep it running & close to my heart for years for you my friend. Until we meet again. SteveO - Posted by: Steve Wilson (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2018

Candy and I spent many hours enjoying life with Jim. His favourite expression when we said thanks for coming after a fun evening was “It was great being had”. Always an optimist and always prepared for anything he was an inspiration to most of those around him. His honesty and integrity was never questioned by anyone. Being part of his journey with cancer showed his strength and dedication to those who loved him. A fighter to the end and always looking out for those around him even when he was enduring his own battle. He was always more worried about Lori than himself. We will always remember Jim as a great friend and neighbour we could count on in time of need. We will never know a more gentle, honest and genuine person. A great man can now continue his journey pain free. Jim will never have to look back with any regrets and can smile and see all of those people who like Candy and me, Lori, his family and friends who are wishing him the best. So long Buddy. We were blessed to know you. - Posted by: Dave Crabb and Candace Neufeld (Friend) on: Jan 14, 2018

Jim is an absolutely wonderful friend. He was always available when I needed a friend to talk to on a lonely night. If I needed advice or help at the cottage Jim was there. 1) Jim worked part time for 25 years or so at a plumbing company in Wpg. He arranged for me to purchase a showroom Bosch hot water heater and Jim supplied a shower for the cottage. 2)A day or two after my father passed Jim and I found an unopened bottle of Glayva in the basement with a 25 year old excise wrapper. We drank the whole bottle toasting Dad with each mouthful. There are many more stories and not all of them were successful but all of them have created a memory that I can revisit that bring a smile to me. Thank you Jim - Posted by: Ted Hawley (30 year friend) on: Jan 13, 2018
